Undercover reporters view of "The Greystones" music venue.

Nice pub with huge selection of draft and bottled beers. Mainly middle aged/middle income "nice" clientele Rolleyes The Backroom, where the music is has a stage and good sound equipment but is rather small. There were just 60 people in with 40 seated and 20 standing. It was full. The atmosphere, bearing in mind the description of the customers was polite and jovial.Rolleyes The band were very competent without being exciting...basically five middle aged men still living the Rock 'Roll dream. The admission price of £11 was frankly extortionate for the goods on offer and the location of the venue makes it difficult to get to unless you drive there. I suspect they are filling a niche market for the locals and I have to say as a live music venue it doesn't do it for me. Altogether too....nice.

It's nothing to do with your chronological age and all to do with your mindset. I know people who were middle aged in their twenties and a few who were young in their eighties.

I always wondered how Axl Rose ever managed to pull himself away from the mirror long enough to play with the band....he seems so far up his own....however, this is a really good rock song.

Not been there for a gig yet, cdlf, but as a pub its a massive, massive improvement on when it was The Highcliffe. You couldn't have got a more unwelcoming and unfriendly pub. Its the nearest pub to my house, and whilst it was The Highcliffe I went there once in 10 years - one visit was more than enough. Thornbridge Brewery have done a great job turning it around; its an excellent pub now, and the beer's top notch, and locals actually drink there now rather than go to the Banner Cross, Ranmoor or Eccy Road. Closes too early at night though.

As for getting there, the 81and 88A buses from town to Bents Green also stop bang outside the pub.

I ask you will Galway bate Mayo? Not if they have Willie Joe...they haven't a hope of beating Mayo!

Aha! I did wonder! We went there a few times in the seventies for the 'Folk Club' on Saturday nights, i think. I'm no folky but the acts were superb. One was Mike Harding - very funny - but the prize of prizes went to the fabulous, 'Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra'. Smug

If you want to know what their act was like, Google Spike Jones, who they emulated. We guessed from the name that they might be worth watching. It took them for ever to set up their gear and we were all speculating what the heck some of it was. No sound check, just 'Are you ready?' and away. Five seconds later, the packed audience was on the floor, helpless with laughter. Brillant!

You know that feeling, when you laughed so hard you were in danger? You just couldn't suck any air into your lungs. Laughing so hard you felt yourself turning blue! It never stopped for the entire show. (I never knew that there were so many noises that a band could make.) LaughLaughLaugh

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

I've got to say that, whilst happy to find this today, it's extremely tame compared with the 'Live' experience. I remember the drummer alone having about eighty different things he could hit. That took the longest to set up.

An American 70's band with...to me anyway....a rather British sound. In any case they were a class act.

Another song from the Stones first album. A collaboration of all five members share the writing credits and it is a good example of the type early stuff they were producing.
