In the summer of '69...I bought an LP by a band called Led Zeppelin on the recomendation of a friend...I had never heard them before.
This is the first track on that LP that I listened to and to be honest I wasn't that impressed. However, over the years I ended up playing that LP again and again untill it wore out and was replaced by a CD.

The big band is the Oliver Nelson band...Jimmy Smith turned the Hammond organ from a church organ into a jazz instrument.

One of those "you had to be there" songs. A few years ago sat with my lady in an open air restaurant terrace overlooking the marina in Key Largo. Watched the sun going into the ocean, the masts of the yachts silhouetted, swaying gently in the warm evening breeze...a cuba libre
in one hand and a menu in the other...when this song started playing in the background. It's times like that that makes all the other shit bearable.

There is no such place as kokomo in the Keys BTW

Isaac Hayes has probably written and produced some of the Cooooolest music EVER. If you ever go to New York, as the plane approaches Kennedy, look out of the window at the city and I'll guarantee this song will flash through your brain.
