Prompted from the Stone Roses thread. Stick bands in here that you've recently found out about/just getting into.

Heard about these a while back but there still pretty small and class IMHO.

Wow! Thanks oldget! I'd never heard of these and missed the show but I'vejust spent around an hour listening to them and am utterly impressed. Can't wait for their first album to be released here 25/7.

By the way, they are doing a free show in Sheffield very shortly: 22/6. See link -

Not a lot wrong there, Adam.

Check out some early Kinks sometime: the rock stuff, before they went all poetic - though I like that stuff too. Ray Davies = English Genius.

Never been. And it's their first ever headlining tour, so no doubt they'll play where they're told! And it might explain the 8 price.

BTW, looking at some of the other acts to come there, it seems to have taken over from the closed Boardwalk.

A few weeks ago, I was taken to a flea pit down town called "The Plug" to see a live band. I'd rather have a vasectomy without anesthetic than go there again. The acoustics and the amplification were in open hostilities and there was a supporting band on who were......sorry lads......the worst, crappiest excuse for an act that I have ever heard. I was served some slop that passed for beer by a rather dim young man with jeans that clung just above his knees, who didn't understand the concept that a pint should be a pint....and not what was left in the (plastic) glass after he had spilled some on the counter. What appeared to be urine..(female?) was running across the "dance floor" and what bit of carpet was in the place clung to your shoes tenaciously if you dared walk on it.

Now I may be showing my age here but if that is what passes for a live music experience, then I'm afraid it will die in this town. Bring back the Boardwalk!

Anyway, this is how a live band should sound.

This was my entirely unbiased report on the venue back in September.Wink

Hardly a new band, but new to me last Sunday night in Nottingham, where they played a double-header with The Union, The Answer (from County Down in Northern Ireland) are a tremendous live rock and roll band. The front man, Cormack Neeson, is incredible. When that boy fell out of the rock and roll tree, he bounced off every branch. The only thing he didn't do the other night was handle serpents!

I thought that by now i'd seen it all, but at one point he was in the centre of the big, rocking crowd and got down on his knees singing. He got around half of the audience down on their knees too, all around him. I was looking down from stairs at the back and it looked like a giant funnel!

If you get the chance to see these live, even if in theory it's not your music, grab it. They are a great night out. And such value! Fifteen quid for three bands on Sunday at Rock City: three and a half hours!

This one is more accurately a band I'm RE-discovering after many years. They hadn't produced a studio album in nine years but WOW, where've they got this tremendous, bluesy, raunchy new sound from, and a record full of top songs to boot? Low down and seriously dirty riffs, a new husky vocal sound: welcome back, boys!

If you knew them before and weren't that bothered, don't just write this off as more of the same. Give it a listen. This is so loaded with great sounds that I'm putting more than one up. Enjoy!

Tracer just won the, 'Best new band', award from Classic Rock Magazine at the ceremony in London. The Aussie rockers were tremendous when I saw them recently at Nottingham's 'Rescue Rooms', which now hold more punters since Tracer blew the walls out with their set.

They're back again in Sheffield next year and we've already got our tickets. The show's at CDLF's favourite venue, 'The Plug', so I'm in for a new experience!

I went to a rock gig in Nottingham last night. I'd no idea who the opening act were by I certainly do now! A Japanese extreme rock act called bo ningen literally stunned a big audience at Rock City.

Like everyone else there I went WTF? when they started up, they were so visually and audibly unusual, but by the second track I was drawn into it and thoroughly enjoyed their long set. They were much more 'visual' last night than on this youtube clip but you'll get the idea. they also played at about ten thousand decibels. Oh, and it's all in Japanese, which just added to the wonderful strangeness! Not for the faint hearted, but try and stick with it past the first few minutes and see if it gets to you like it did to a packed, noisy house last night. Like four mice on speed, really going for it! Wow

bo ningen!

You Could Easily Have Me off 2006's Pip Payne (Pay the 5000 You Owe Me), sounds ace cranked up!

Just downloaded I'm Aquarius, sounds good!

Going through the back catalogue as well, some reight hidden gems!

she said, 'I know you boy you cannot sing', I said, 'that's nothing, you should hear me play piano'

Nice to see these boys starting to make it over here. We're off to see 'em in Manchester again next month. Real feelgood rock music.

Top value too: their new album comprises two live CDs and a live DVD of the same gig for a total of 9.99. Blink

Blues Caravan 2013 - Joanne Shaw Taylor - Jealousy @ Harmonie (Bonn)

Just bought my first album by her, 'The Dirty Truth'. I doubt it'll be my last.
