Playing in Cardiff tonight. I'm not going myself, but know lots who are.

Anyone a fan of the aging group? Think there is gonna be a big enough crowd to slow Cardiff down to a halt tonight, similar to how Rihanna did the other night

Huge, huge fan of his older stuff

Bon Jovi
7800 Farenheit
Slippery When Wet
New Jersey

All four are fantastic albums.

His newer stuff is a bit hit and miss which i'm finding a lot with bands these days. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Green Day and Aerosmith I find have gone the same direction.

One of my favourite clips on you tube is his concert at Sheffield City Hall. The long solos from Richie before they burst in to In and Out of Love (one of many favourites of his)

Let it Rock, Roulade, Bad Medicine, Only Lonely, In And Out Of Love, The Hardest Part is the Night - probably my favourites of his

I really emjoyed 'em at Sheffield Arena when it first opened, early 1990's. They were touring their then new 'Keep the faith' album.

They've not done it since then for me. Just like wallpaper, most of their more recent stuff. Not knocking 'em live though, but it just wouldn't be the same without Sambora, for me.

My mate and his nephew watched 'em in Manchester last weekend, though.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Was that the tour with Thunder & Van Halen supporting them Fred??, I was at that concert, was a great day out, Thunder were superb that day.

My mate is on the Bon Jovi tour at the moment, he works for Trans Am, the company that own & run all the staging trucks, I think he did the Manchester & Sunderland stages.

I don't think so, Matt. I'm pretty sure I've never seen Van Halen and I'd never seen Thunder until last Christmas.

I saw Thunder at the Arena last month, btw, opening for Whitesnake and Journey. Stole the show for me, even though they only had 45 mins.

All that said, I couldn't tell you who - if anyone - opened for Bon Jovi back in '93.

(If anyone knows how to look it up, it was on the Tuesday night after the Cup Final, before the replay on the Thursday.)

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

When I saw them at the arena the first band was an american band, ace of spades i think, all black fellas playing Iron Maiden type rock, not too bad. Then it was Thunder and they were amazing. Then it was van Halen who were meh and finally Bon Jovi, who were brilliant.
It was a midweek gig, maybe Wednesday, started at 2pm ish & finished near midnight.
All I can remember about the date is on the Saturday or Sunday after, i was taking the dog on Wincobank hill for a walk with a pair of binoculars and spending a few hours watching the Stones voodoo lounge gig, could hear it clear as day.
Still kicking myself I never got to see them live in the stadium, but they must have been a hundred people on the hill that night with beer, food, everything watching the Stones!!

Edit; just checked wiki and the Voodoo lounge tour was July 95 so that's when I must have seen Bon Jovi.

Just Googled that Stones tour in Sheffield: 9/7/95. If the Bon Jovi one was the same year then it was a couple of years after the one we saw.

Yeah it was only 4 or 5 days before mate, I remember that cos I had to take a week off work to make sure I got to see it. Was surprising to see how quick the stating in the stadium was dismantled for the bon jovi gig & the stones stage went up after.

Went to that, on a Sunday if I remember right, lovely sunny day, few beers in the Greyhound (?) next door to the DVS, landlord had a BBQ going.

They had this big fuck off mechanical snake thing that breathed fire and a 273 mile long cat walk (well it seemed that long, was feckin huge) that Mick spent most of the gig sprinting and dancing up. The opening to Gimme Shelter sent shivers down your spine.

Saw them on TV at Glasto at the weekend, and although impressive, they were not on what they were like in 95.

Went to see them again in 99, but it absolutely pissed it down, still very very good though.

she said, 'I know you boy you cannot sing', I said, 'that's nothing, you should hear me play piano'

Matt, if you could see the Stones then it was outdoor. The BJ one I referred to was in the (indoor) Arena.

Yeah sorry, both the Stones & Bon Jovi were in the stadium.
I was really pissed I never got to see the Stones live that night, apparently the Voodoo lounge tour was their best one, from what we all saw * heard from on top of the hill it would have been superb to have been in the crowd.

Best show I saw in the Arena was Brian Adams, he was superb that night.
