This may be a unique problem but I thought I'd share the solution with you.
Mrs Stis' Mazda2 key fob died and after changing the poxy little 1620 battery the doors still didn't lock on the remote, the light came on the fob when you pressed the button but nothing happened with the car. I concluded the car and the fob were out of sych and needed a reboot, I didn't fancy taking it to a main dealer to be told I needed a new key at 200 or that it needed connecting to a fancy diagnostic machine and a Wizard would say a magic spell and the car would work again so I did the time honoured remedy of switching the car off by disconnecting the battery, leaving it for a few minutes then reconnecting the battery and lo and behold we had zoom zoom (Mazda2 remember), I had to set the clock and radio presets but that's all.

So re-booting the car has superceded the time honoured 1970s method of booting the car? Bigsmile

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

At the risk of sounding a smart arse
I'm a Mazda technician used to work for the main dealer until a few years back
Mazda 2 had a recurring fault on the central locking
While under warranty both remote fobs were replaced along with the receiver unit for the central locking
Close to 400 if I recall correctly after warranty has expired so if it still resets by disconnecting the battery keep doing it
I'm only a year late please ignore Blush

Better late than never Mungo, when we first got the car it was 15 months old (57 plate one of the first of that model) and got through a fob battery a fortnight, so we had it replaced under warranty and the dealer admitted there was a problem.
