Ian Knight.

Thanks to Baresi for helping me out with this, and obviously to Ian too... A top bloke.

The England under 21 manager, Don Howe if i recall, believed that Knight would have been the kingpin of England's defence for years to come. His injury paved the way for Tony Adams to make his name.

That's how good he was

Our great hopes, out young promising players seem cursed. From horrific injuries to Ian Knight to the stupidity of Mark Platts and Owen Morrison.

I was sat in the south stand when he got injured...it happened about 10 yards from where I was. As has been said, the sound of the breaking bone was like a pistol shot and he went down screaming in agony. Late is too small a word to describe the tackle. The c**t that tackled him has been giving it the big "I am" all week in the press, bad mouthing Wednesday and saying what he was going to do. It was nothing short of a premeditated attack and in this more enlightened times he would probably been arrested and charged with GBH.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

'I only knew Mike briefly but my most vivid memory was his pre-game warm-up…having two young apprentices help him….one would toss the ball up, while the other stood as an opponent for Mike to come through him like a train to head the ball…classic!'

Brilliant & all you need to know about Lyons!!

I can remember being excited about another kind of local lad coming through into the side, a quality player no doubt before being taken out.

I might pop in for a brew next time I'm over Vancouver way!!

Remember briefly seeing Knight play and I was there the night he got done by that cowardly bastard Bennett but my grandad raved about him and touted him as a future skipper and England player.

Funny to see that c**t Bennett is doing shit like this http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/skelm ersdale-couple-who-feature-come-7393336 and his twitter is https://twitter.com/Garybenno7 if you want to pass on any comments on about that tackle.

Quality, quality player. No one knows if he would have kicked on or not.
I wasn't at the game as I was on a course in Brum but extended highlights were on the telly. Bennett got rightly slaughtered by the commentator the cowardly tw@t.
Oh, and lived next door but one from him in Wadsley Bridge for a year or so. Nice bloke.
