Sounds like the Italians need to work on the menu, too. Blink

Called in the Sette Colli on Bradfield Road on Sunday. I haven't been in there for over twenty years and probably won't bother again. The food (pasta dishes) was very ordinary and the general ambience was flat. House wine quite expensive but not too bad. Easy parking in the garage next door though. There are far better Italian restaurants out there.

Sunday lunch at the Leeds Arms, South Anston yesterday. Several people had bigged this place up to me recently so my expectations were quite high, but I was vaguely dissapointed with the food. Although it wasn't busy, being quite late, It took a fair while for the food to arrive and when it did the roast beef was a bit chewy although very flavoursome. The Yorkshire puds were excellent and the vegetable selection good and properly cooked (I hate the modern trend of serving almost raw vegetable)
The wine was from a well known Chilean vinery that I have bought in a supermarket for about 6 so it was priced quite expensive although not piss takingly so. A nice sweet completed the meal. Not too bad value at about 20 per head for our party of six.

It might be a bit harsh to judge a place on a piece of tough beef...so we may call again in the future on a midweek day and try the standard menu.

We fancied a steak so Decided to go to the Rotherham Beefeater on spec last Sunday, but when we got there they told us they were expecting a large party in and it would be a 45 minute wait for a table. So, we decided to try somewhere else and googled a place nearby called the Real Steak House. When we got there it was ominously quiet, but it was early so we decided to give it a whirl.
The place looks like it was once a working mans club or some such venue and felt a bit downmarket...but they talk a good fight on their menu promising a selection of large succulent steaks (the smallest was 10 oz) expertly cooked to your liking. I ordered a medium rare Rib Eye and the wife a medium Sirloin. So let's cut to the chase...they were crap...no other way to call it. My steak was quite frankly like a bit of old boot leather and seriously undercooked (it was trying to graze on my lettuce leaf) and hers was burnt and buggered and dry as a Ryvita.
Don't go there...end of.

Went to Sakushi on Campo Lane on Sat night, really enjoyed it!! Relaxed, great atmosphere, chilled out, ended up leaving car in town as the Sauvignon Blanc and rice wine took priority!

Not the cheapest, but well worth every penny!

When we go to the Buxton Opera House, we invariably book for a pre-opera dinner at the historic Old Hall Hotel just opposite. The a la carte restaurant is old fashioned in the best possible way with attentive, courteous service in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. The food is always well cooked and beautifully presented. Wine isn't cheap but there's a good selection at the bottom end of the price list. There's also a wine bar serving food most of the day.
It's not a cheap night out with tickets for the opera at around 36/40 each and dinner with wine at about 60...but it is an occasional treat and feels very decadent and indulgent. I can thoroughly recommend this venue
