agree with Ambar not the Ashoka, currently using the Maazi Hathersage bit pricey but better than the usual fare

Best curry house in Nottingham, for me, is Spices in Wollaton.
The city centre ones look nice but the food is overpriced and i've had better take-aways than most of them

I tried Smoke BBQ on Sunday. The surrounding restaurants (Cafe Rouge, Piccolino, and a Chinese Buffet) were all very sparsely populated but the BBQ was rammed. If you like meat this is for you. The beef (I tried the brisket and Mrs CDLF had the ribs) was very tender but a little dry for my taste, but they have certainly caught the imagination with this concept. I shall give it another try and probably have a steak which I can specify how I like it cooked.

Café Rouge sparsely populated then cdlf? Doesn't bode well....especially as their establishment (which has been there for a dozen years at least) on Eccy Road has closed down.

I ask you will Galway bate Mayo? Not if they have Willie Joe...they haven't a hope of beating Mayo!

Just back from my trip to the Wolds. So many decent boozers but the one that really stands out is The Fleece at Bishop Wilton. Good beer (Pennine Bitter, Copper Dragon etc) and really good home cooked food. The chips are home made and very moorish and the sarnies are doorsteps. Game a speciality, all shot locally. They do rooms too.

This is the last time I'm painting on a grin.

The one in Meadowhall has closed as well Franco...I think they might have gone bust. I've eaten there a few times and although the food was OK there was never enough on your plate for the price. A case of accounts doing portion control??

What used to be Cragrats on back whack route to Hudds via Flouch has changed hands, same people that ran Butchers Arms at Hepworth have got it now and that used to be spot on, anyway, givin it a spin on Sunday and will report back!

Just an update on a couple of venues. On Christmas Eve we went with friends to the Prince of Wales at the traffic lights, top of Eccleshall Road. A big pub restaurant with an extensive menu. It was rammed being Christmas but we had a good night and the food and wine was good. Considering how busy it was the service was excellent.
Enjoyed it enough to go again last week...and the food was atrocious, the wine tasted like malt vinegar which for £19 quid is disgraceful...it wasn't off, just poor quality... but the service was still pleasant. Hmmm!

But here's a recommendation...if you are ever in Lincoln try The Barge moored in Brayford Pool. Had an excellent steak, cooked exactly to my liking and once again the service and the wine was good.

That's always been a great place. Used to be the Woodstock Diner when I was a lad, every birthday was there or uncle sams/Yankees.

If you're after a decent red wine, Chateau Musar is outrageously good. Lebanese from Bekkar valley around 19 quid a bottle from waitrose.

One I forgot to mention before...The Top Red Lion at Grenoside is now doing food, and it's pub grub with service...but very informal. Not special but plenty on your plate and very reasonabley priced with decent red wine at £11 a bottle. Good for an unplanned pop in meal.
