Off here https://www.samphire.je/ saturday.

First time once it's changed from Ormer and replaced head chef Shaun Rankin. Interested to see if menu changed much and whether it will retain its Michelin star.

And yeah, forgot about Champ League Final that night.

[quote post_date='23/05/2018 at 21:55' user_id='Epworthowl']Went to the Hope and Anchor in South Ferriby last weekend. I had a tartare scotch egg started on a bed ofcsoused beetroot. Mains was cap of beef with creamed mustard mash baked and crisped onion with cabbage and caraway seed side. It was delicious. Cap of brrf is a similar cut to pork belly. It was a slow cooked in BBQ sauce and melted in the mouth. Fantastic. Washed down with a local IPA. Well worth a visit. Both mine and Mrs Epworth meal came to just under £60 For a couple of drinks and 2 courses. Very good value for a excellent dinner.

Any recommendations in Sherburn / Selby Abbey area east of Leeds? midweek lunch.

Flying into Sherburn airport to meet some clients from Leeds and thought it may be better to stay out there instead of travelling to & from the city

If its not too late Andyben, there's what looks like a motel / lodge at South Milford called Milford Lodge, its on the old A1. The food there is excellent! I stayed there a few times when I worked at Rocol in Swillington many years ago

Called in the Devonshire Arms at Baslow yesterday for a late Sunday lunch. Just the basics on the menu, roast beef, pork and I think chicken. Anyway we both opted for the roast beef and the waitress asked how we would like it cookedBlink I don't understand how they can offer various degrees of cooking unless they have three different joints cooked rare, medium and well done. Anyway, I went along with the charade and asked for medium rare and the wife asked for medium. When they came I asked the waitress which one was the medium rare which threw her a bit and then she said "they are both the same...they all come like this"

Well, "both the same," turned out to be over cooked slices of indifferent tasting chewy beef from a catering pack. The accompanying vegetables were fashionably crisp....and undercooked for my taste, with barely roasted potatoes that had a garlicky taste to them. Fine for a dish of lamb cooked with rosemary but definitely not what you want with roast beef and Yorkshire.

The landlady to be fair noticed that we did not finish our meals and asked if there was a problem and when told was most apologetic and refunded one of the meals. A £21 bottle of Italian Merlot was actually very good and only emphasised how bad the food was.

So I can only advise to give this one a miss.

Its amazing how many establishments can't get the basics of a Sunday roast to a good standard.

I started this thread with a recommendation for Lucia's wine bar and have been a fairly frequent visiter at their Beverley one ever since. Well we called again yesterday evening after a beautiful late summer day out in North Bay, Scarborough with family and baby grand daughter. We arrived at about 8.15 pm and although the place was heaving on a Wednesday night it wasn't a problem as no prior booking is required. Not that that affected the service, which was prompt, efficient and as friendly as ever. I sipped a Mojito before deciding on my favourite Linguine Gamberetti and I swear it was even better that I had before. Huge succulent prawns and baby asparagus spears in a ginger and garlic sauce washed down with a bottle of house white with a Panna Cotta for sweet was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

I really can't fault this place and it is my favourite venue bar none....five star.

Was about 3 years ago when we were up there but found a couple in Pooley Bridge.
1863 bistro was a touch pricey for the area but well worth it.
Locals also recommended a place called Grannies down near the steamers. Fantastic home cooked stuff. Had the breakfast and didn't need lunch. Never done that before or since.

Also had at night at the Low Wood on the way up, near Ambleside. Pretty decent as well.

Spent three days in York last week and apart from our obligatory visit to the local Lucias restaurant, we tried the Latinos Brazilian Steak House near the Barbican. It was on a Monday night and was very quiet...just three other couples apart from us. You can have a straight forward steak, or, you can have their sampler menu which in effect means you can eat as much as you want of several different cuts of prime steak and chicken and sausage.
They give you a token which is green on one side and red on the other. If you display the green side, the waiter will bring a skewer of beef and cut you a sample from it...then another...then another, ad infinitum, until you give in and turn over the red side. Have a rest and then turn back to green and he will further indulge your gluttony. The meat is of excellent quality and cooked to perfection...they specifically say "don't ask for very well done"Bigsmile it's a carnivore's paradise. They also provide an excellent salad bar for wimps.

Sounds good, that (the tatsing menu) is very common in Brazilian restaurants.

Had one here for a while, did all manner of real local brazilian food, chicken livers, heart etc as well as the ususal cuts an sausages

I hadn't posted on this thread for a while. So a quick catch up. We recently ate at the Hunloke Arms in Wingerworth. The menu is good and the bar has a "beer wall" with a choice of about 200 different beers.
The Yakatori sticks are fantastic and the pizzas are huge, freshly made and delicious, they have a pizza oven in the restaurant!

We had duck wraps for starter which were fantastic, flavoursome and succulent. For mains I had a steak Yakatori stick which comes with twice cooked chips which were possibly the best chips I've had in a restaurant.

All in all a great meal for "pub grub"
