One I forgot to mention before...The Top Red Lion at Grenoside is now doing food, and it's pub grub with service...but very informal. Not special but plenty on your plate and very reasonabley priced with decent red wine at 11 a bottle. Good for an unplanned pop in meal.

Aye, we tried to "pop in" after our walk last Monday afternoon. Shut! Grr

(I don't mean permanently.)

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

That's always been a great place. Used to be the Woodstock Diner when I was a lad, every birthday was there or uncle sams/Yankees.
Andyben, 24/01/2015 at 22:36

Was it also called the Chuck Wagon? Remember going on birthdays, had mine in there a couple of times when I was a kid.

Didn't it burn down in the mid-80's in an alleged insurance scam?

I've got a vague memory of a Burger joint on Holme Lane at Hillsborough burning down in an insurance scam.

If you're after a decent red wine, Chateau Musar is outrageously good. Lebanese from Bekkar valley around 19 quid a bottle from waitrose.
Andyben, 24/01/2015 at 22:36

Ahh Yankees, the first place I saw THAT poster with THAT lass tennis player scratching THAT backside!!.

Had that on the wall of my house in Saudi, early 1980's. Forgot to take it down before some arab workers arrived to service the air conditioning. They thought it was great. Thumbsup

Just googled it! it was called the Chuck Ranch on Holme Lane and did indeed burn down in 1985 with the charred remains still there by the early 90's, conjecture as to the insurance status though, some say scam, although the owner was never arrested or charged, some say he had no insurance at all!

Tried Dino's on Ecclesall Road just above Hunters Bar this week. It's BYOW midweek and the menu is just pasta, pizza, pancakes etc. with a daily specials board. The Bruchetta was distinctly average but the pasta was good...the service very personal, albeit a bit slow on a busy night. VFM was OK.

Certainly give it another go
