Surprisingly, I've never been to Nonnas on Eccleshall Road before...so I put that right on Monday. It was fairly quiet and we elected to just have pasta so we had their much vaunted Lasagne. It was OK but not mind blowing...a little heavy on the tomato and not enough cheese for my taste. But the wine list...talk about taking the piss....the cheapest bottle was 19 quid and there were plenty in the 30's and 40's.
Now I've been drinking wine since about 1967...before it became mainstream...and I know that you definately don't get better quality for your cash by paying this sort of price in a restaurant. I think I'll give it a miss in future.

Hope you weren't sat outside with all the regular poseurs that frequent that establishment, cdlf...or the Nonnanentities as they're more popularly known....😆

I ask you will Galway bate Mayo? Not if they have Willie Joe...they haven't a hope of beating Mayo!

No Franco, we were inside but there were a few sat outside. I can only assume they want to be seen sipping their wine on the terrace as a statement of wealth...because you sure as hell need a few quid to drink there. There was even two forty something guys supping what looked like Champagne but was probably Babysham..........That doesn't make them bad people of courseBigsmile

Yes, its very much a place for the Sheffield glitterati to be 'seen'...there and the Pointing Dog across the road.

We were taken out to the St Moritz in Buxton last Friday night, an Italian very near the Opera House. Food was inexpensive if you stuck to the Pasta/Risotto/Pizza menu and the wine list is reasonable with a decent selection. A La Carte menu is exactly what you would expect and the service was efficient without being intrusive. Will definitely visit this place again.

I see the Old Vicarage has lost its Michelin star, only restaurant in Sheffield to hold one n'all, mind you not surprised, went a few years ago for a 50th birthday do and I was very disappointed.

Anybody tried The Wick At Both Ends on West St? Got a birthday do there in a couple of weeks.

We ate out on Monday at The Inn at Troway. It used to be The Blackamoor Inn but I suppose that became offensive, despite it being a venerable name. That features in the Michelin Guide, although it isn't 'starred'. Very pleasant food and a stunning view out over the Moss Valley.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Only ever been there for a beer, MPB...saw it had what I thought was an expensive lunch menu - have never considered going there for a meal.
