I've never had one before: my old Nokia wind-up phone has a little man walking in front of it with a red flag. I've been pointed at Tesco for cheap monthly contracts with the phone for free. Looking at what they're offering online, I wondered if some of you have experience and views on this selection:

All are 3g unless stated and all offer 250 mins per month phone, 5000 texts and 500mb of data, unless stated otherwise.

LG L50: 7.50 month.

Motorola Moto E: 7.50

Motorola Moto G with 4g: 9

Nokia Lumia 630: 10

Samsung Galaxy S6810 Fame (500 mins): 10

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini: 9

Samsung Galaxy Young 2 (Shurrup!): 7.50

Sony Experia E1: 10

Please reply in 'The cat sat on the mat' language! Smug

I can't really comment on so many of them, but if I were you I'd stay away from the Nokia Lumia. I've had one of theirs before and they're ridiculously complicated to use. The menus are all over the place.

I would have thought the Samsung galaxy will be relatively easy to use, though in fairness I don't know much about any of the others.

In fact those Nokias are so complicated to use I decided to leave mine on the train after QPR away last season.

Has anyone tried to return it ? Bigsmile

I quite like the look of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini for its pocketability but there seems to be lots of moaning in the owner review section about battery charge life.

Thanks Liam.

Anyone else used any of these, please?

Interesting. Would you recommend one to someone who hasn't had a smart phone before?

I have a Samsung s4 mini.
Great phone, very easy to use, don't have a problem with the battery life, I charge it every night but then again I use it every day!, the only time I don't use it is when I'm at home, its on airplane mode then and it lasts 2+ days then easy.

500meg ain't a lot tbh, make sure you use WiFi where you can and for all updates or you will go over that easy.

Thanks for the tips. I don't plan on using it as a substitute for my PC so I'm hopeful the download limit will be sufficient.

Talked to a woman at work who I saw using one last night. She also charges it every day and switches it off when she goes to bed. I'm definitely leaning towards one of them, out of the ones listed. The 4g (other) one appealed at first but sounds very fiddly and perhaps fallible.

If you've got a little more cash to spare I'd look at the HTC Desire 510, very very functional.

Got a Nokia Lumia 635 with Tesco Mobile a couple of months ago, having previously had a HTC Desire C with 3...very happy with it and the deal I got with Tesco for it. Unlike Liam's experience, have found it dead easy to use.

I ask you will Galway bate Mayo? Not if they have Willie Joe...they haven't a hope of beating Mayo!
