Love the Lakeside, but the BDO is poor compared to the PDC

Yeah, although I hate BDO / PDC arguments. You either love darts or you don't.

There's no denying the standard is not as good as the PDC, but there is something special about Lakeside, especially to those of my vintage, it's where we fell in love with the game.

The BDO is still important in darts too, a good breeding ground for future stars

Agree totally with this, can remember watching Richie Burnett, Bobby George and Steve Beaton on the bbc and that's when I fell in love with darts. The pdc standard is unreal, but a proper darts crowd is the lakeside one.

No, Lowe's was the first televised 9 darter

Taylor's was the first live televised 9 darter in 2002, although that's up for debate as it was done live on Dutch TV in a small event by Shaun Greatbatch a few weeks before Taylor did it.

Taylor hitting 2 in one match takes some beating.

I would say in viewing/attendance terms the pdc is at its peak.

I was watching the bdo world masters final earlier this year in hull, there was about 80 people there, tragic really. The bdo can't compete in terms of prize money because of the attendances they get. But as JBO says, it's a breeding ground for players.
