A nice piece for anyone interested...

Much of it was filmed where I lived as a kid from the age of about 3.

And Arthur Clayton who is mentioned in this piece was my neighbour until he passed away when I was about 14.

Nice read that Tee.

Not far from Grenoside and I remember seeing Kestrels in Greno Woods when I was a kid. It was much better managed back then and there were clearings so they could hunt.

Happy days.

This is the last time I'm painting on a grin.

That turnpike he's on about near Tankersley must be the one that goes up the side of Tankersley Manor, then snakes round, over the M1 and into Hoyland Common? If it is theres a wooded bit just after the Manor where the lane bends left and inclines, that's where I was sat for about an hour, in an Austin Maestro in 1992 at about 3 in the morning, deciding what to do after I'd wrapped it round a tree!

SACK MONK NOW!!!! OH, AND FUCK THE EFL!!!!

That's the best thing you could do with an Allegro. They should have given you a medal for services to the car industry and aesthetics.

Fucking vile piece of automotive crap. It's no coincidence that they sold it in shit brown and vomit yellow.

Yeah, the woods that the film was shot in was near Tankersley Church, which is further down the road from the Manor when you turn up there from the A61..

Andyben, 06/03/2016 at 18:12

The Maestro was basically an Allegro with a "streamlined" body. And it came in "shit brown" and "vomit yellow"

Unfortunately they never made a Vanden Plas model by sticking a Rolls Royce style grill on the front. So the Allegro wins the title of shittiest BL car hands down.

Although the Princess comes close.

My dad didn't buy either of those Smug

He bought a yellow Morris Marina estate. Huh to replace a mud brown Ford Escort Estate.

Although to be fair to him, he got thousands of the list price as it was a returned company car Shock with only about 250 miles on the clock.

Plus he gets points for not buying a Morris Ital to replace it.

Cool

Worth noting here, how having a family effects your car choice. He had two big engined Ford Cortinas in the late 60s before me and me sis came along.
(sorry dad Blush

I once went to the Scottish Highlands in a Morris Marina hire car. (I was doing the national three peaks challenge solo: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours. No-one else was daft enough to join me.)

The engine died completely at driving speed in the narrow, gorge section of Glencoe, whilst I'd got a huge artic truck loaded with logs right behind me. I frantically went to wind the window down and wave him past. The window handle came off in my hand.

Pinch

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Reminds me of driving back from Elland Road in me battered orange Fiat 125 one very humid late summer's night in 1991, we drew 1-1, anyway, I'm in the fast lane Shock, overtaking an artic in pissing down rain just after Woolley Edge services, I'm going as fast as I can, the windows are all steamed up and wipers on fast speed, as I'm inching past this artic, frantically wiping the inside of the windscreen, there was a huge double twang noise and both wipers flew off, couldn't see a fucking thing, shat myself, was on my own in the car and held my breath as I played Frogger across all three lanes into the hard shoulder, how I survived I'll never know!

He's just died, Barry Hines.

Also did Threads which is either a view of a post apocalyptic Sheffield or modern day Rotherham.
