Tom Petty died of a heart attack aged 66yrs.
I didn't get into his music until relatively recently (if 20 years is counted as recent) but I came to appreciate his basic, no nonsense Rock and Roll.
His collaboration with Jeff Lynne with Into the Great Wide Open LP and The Travelling Wilbury's supergroup music probably brought him greater public presence than his own breakthrough singles in the late 70's.
He headlined with The Heartbreakers just this summer in Hyde Park to great acclaim.
RIP Tom Petty.

Might get to see him again.

LAPD dropped a bollock, he's still alive in hospital

FFS!

Been buying his albums since the late 1970s. Rock on, Tommy. Please!

Bugger!

RIP, Tom, lad. And thank you.

An early favourite: 'I need to know'. Short, sharp and excellent.

I got a bit of a shock last night, whilst listening to music on the iPod at work. The lass I work with had never heard of Tom before his death so I let her listen to one of his songs on the iPod. After she'd finished with it I reclaimed it and started it playing songs randomly from a long playlist. Imagine my surprise when the very next random song had the line, "I still love Top Petty songs..." ! Blink There's over three hundred albums on there. What were the chances of that happening? 'It's a sign, a sign!' Smile

Anyway, the song was 'Even cowgirls get the blues' by Gaslight Anthem and, for those who like rock and roll, I've just added it to the 'Just because I like 'em' thread.

I got a shock when you said you had an iPod.

Expected a Stereogram on a trolley with a back pack full of 78's
