We got into a discussion the other day about all the cars we've owned over the years and it brought back memories of my first ever car. It was a 1958 Austin A55 Cambridge and I bought it for £40 in 1970. Nowadays twelve year old cars can often be very good and serviceable but back then it was the accepted wisdom that a new car had seen it's best days after about 50K and indeed they were usually a load of trouble to keep running. Mine with 68K on the clock was no exception and added to that cars of that vintage rusted badly from new. Mine had wings that actually flapped because rust had eaten away at the join down the line next to the door. Nevertheless, it had a red leather interior and was smooth and quiet on the road. A bit heavy on petrol but you could fill it up for about ten bob (50p) and it did me for a camping holiday down in Devon that year where I met a young lady who was very impressed that I had a car...and I mean very impressed. It ended up abandoned on some spare land when I replaced it with a Farina Magnette the following year and finished up a burnt out shell when some kids set it on fire....Happy days.

An orange mini, reg OKW 11 R.
£5 to fill up in 1980. I remember that because my first ever credit card bill had one item on it, my first tank of petrol for my first car.

It was ok, but shook like fook at over 65mph on the motorway. And there was something dodgy about the electrics. I remember one December evening getting a few angry toots. I soon realised that I had no lights, no indicators, but I think the wipers worked.

No good as a babe magnet either.

I traded it in for a Talbot Avenger which I rolled and wrote off.

What was a Farina Magnette CDLF, an MG?

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Yes an MG Magnette but with the Farina styled body that was also badge engineered into a Riley, a Wolseley and of course the Morris and Austin versions.

Mk1 Micra in the shittiest green colour ever. I bought it nearly 23 years ago about a year after i passed and forgot how to drive. Hit a lamp post when parking within half hour then had to drive it down to London the same weekend. A few weeks later a rich Arab opened his BMW on the very same wing as I was driving down the road so had that fixed. A few months later, having been driving in London, and feeling much more confident, I'm putting the car in the garage and thought i'd try reversing in with my feet crossed, right on the clutch and left on accelerator. Hit the brick wall at the back at 15 - 20 miles an hour and that was the end of that one

Allegro Mk3 (I think) not the one with the square steering wheel.
Had it for about six months then upgraded to a Mk3 Capri Cabaret in half n half blue and silver.

Fiat 127 A reg
Bought in 1989 and I've had 24 cars since
A lot of bangers held together with cable ties and gaffa tape
Others include cavalier Sri (two) Nissan primera gt ,Mazda mx3 v6
Plenty of sheds too ford escorts fiat punto fiat panda fiat regatta base model cavaliers Mazda 323
I've worked thirty years as a mechanic so they've really cost me little to maintain over the years
Sadly I can recall the reg number for every single car

Go to Bramall Lane??? I'd rather shit in my hands and clap

2nd hand red F reg Ford fiesta mark 2, would have been about 7 years old when got in 1995, I understand the petrol tank on it was the same size as a Granada petrol tank, and all you could smell was petrol once you filled the tank fully. Good first car as it did its job for about 5 years before the rust won.
