I need a repair on my CD player and the manufacturer has quoted a flat rate £200 Laugh

I know the part (Laser mechanism) only costs about £10 and it's probably an hours job to someone who knows their onions so if you know of a good local repairer I'd be obliged for details.

Thanks

You use it to play music discs....bit complicated but you'll get them in Scotland eventually when you get electricity.

See if there's any instructions for doing it on YouTube or something, doubt it's hard with guidance

CD players are so cheap why would you fix one? Buy another.

Maybe but I don't think he'd baulk at a £200 fee to repair a two grand cd player and he definitely wouldn't be trying a self repair.

Because it was an expensive one in the first place.

I'll answer my own question...Real Electronics Ltd. based in the old cop shop on Attercliffe. My Arcam is now fit and well again and ready for many more years of kicking Rock 'n Roll arse.

It was replacing the laser reader and mechanism. The part was £15 and the Labour £59...all plus VAT so £88.80 all in. I know you can get a CD player for about £250 now but mine was a good quality one when new and I've always liked the sound. To replace it with a similar sounding one now would cost the thick end of £1k. I run it through a Roksan amp and a pair of Quad speakers and it can shake the foundations without any distortion. Boys and their toys eh!Bigsmile
