The law beats justice Everytime.

Or as a wizened old litigation partner told me years ago

"We deal in the law; leave justice for pitchfork welding mobs"

And another great political shitstain of Camerons tenancy in No.10

Does this now mean an end to this never ending saga or will there be another court case/ enquiry on an annual basis for eternity?

CPS is seeking a retrial, so it'll stay in the news for a little bit longer. Rolleyes

It doesn't really surprise me, how often do senior coppers ever get convicted of anything? Any given jury is likely to have a few very pro-police, Daily Mail reading types. Personally I don't think it's that complicated. Thirty odd ambulances were held outside while ordinary fans with basic first aider badges were giving CPR to dying people. The reason for that is the Police's failure to declare an emergency. The inadequate response of the emergency services is Duckenfield's responsibility, nobody else's, and fuck all to do with SWFC, the FA, Sheffield City Council or the safety engineers. If this had happened in China, he would probably have just been quietly shot.

I think I will take the Jury deliberations as opposed to Owl71.

The key is he had to be judged on the law of the time, the way of the world at the time.

And were his actions deliberate, out of course for his training, experience, the protocols of the time.

Always said the best scene setter on this is the first few pages of Justice Taylor's first report and the culture surrounding football.

For those of us who remember football at the time, the disrespect of the police for fans was purely as a result of fans being dicks for years

Happy clapping for 4 years more than Emre

He hasn't got off.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

The CPS?

Surely you're smart enough to understand the difference between a jury being unable to reach a verdict and a not-guilty verdict.

In Scotland there's the option of 'Not proven' as well as guilty or not guilty. Didn't realise England had the option of a non verdict.

Liverpool FC release statement with a load of gubbins about the journey continues but still gets in the bit about LFC supporters being completely exonerated from ANY blame.
Hillsborough Families Association release statement greeting the ruling with derision.
And falling right into defence teams hands who'll now be able to cite undue pressure on any next jury.

Hearing that the judge is to take into account the exact jury split to see whether a conclusion either way could be reached if heard again.
