Most of you will be up to speed on the famous Alan Harper Award, but just for any new readers, here's a quick explanation.

Points are awarded for misdemeanours throughout the season and the player with the most points at the end of the season takes the prestigious award. Points are awarded as follows,

Yellow card - 1 point
Penalty conceeded - 2 points
Penalty missed - 2 points
Red card - 3 points
Own goal - 3 points

Alan Harper was a squad member of the excellent Everton side of the 80s, who always seemed to have a stormer against us - in fact he scored the first goal against us in the 1985-86 F.A. Cup semi final. So when Wednesday signed him for £275,000 in June 1988 it's fair to say that most Wednesdayites were pretty pleased with the signing. Predictably, he then turned out to be absolute garbage for us. It is not his lack of form that sees this competition named after him though, but his antics in a 4-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, in which he conceeded a penalty, scored an own goal and got booked, an impressive 6 points all in one game.

The Alan Harper Award was a mainstay of Cheat fanzine between 1989 and 1996, made a return in War of the Monster Turcks in the 00s, and has been resident on Owlsonline since 2006.

The Owlsonline winners of the Alan Harper Award are;

2006-07. Tommy Spurr
2007-08. Jermaine Johnson
2008-09. Mark Beevers
2009-10. Lewis Buxton
2010-11. Giles Coke
2011-12. Reda Johnson
2012-13. Miguel Llera
2013-14. Sam Hutchinson
2014-15. Glen Loovens
2015-16. Sam Hutchinson
2016-17. Sam Hutchinson
2017-18. Daniel Pudil
2018-19. Barry Bannan

A decent AH start.

Three points for Westwood's red card, and there were also yellows for Fletcher, Reach and Hutchinson.

Kieran Westwood 3
Steven Fletcher 1
Sam Hutchinson 1
Adam Reach 1

I managed to lock myself out of my account after the Barnsley game; thanks to my good friend Mike (lurker on here rather than poster), Owling and admin, I'm back.

Our old AH favourite Sam Hutchinson leads the way with today's yellow card being his ninth of the season. Odubajo's only added a single point since his 5 pointer at Preston (two conceded penalties and a booking in case you've forgotten), but it's enough to keep him in second place. Borner looks like he's got a taste for this with 5 bookings, with Palmer and Westwood's misdemeanours at West Brom took them both to 5 points.

Not contend with taking a starring role in both the Who Got Us The Points and Goalscorers into double figures threads tonight, Fletcher clearly realised that there hadn't been any AH points and duly took his shirt off in celebration of the second to secure a yellow card.

A conceded penalty and a red card for Odubajo at Derby puts him a point clear of Hutch, who also managed to pick a point up. It's Odubajo's second five pointer of the season, even Alan Harper didn't hit those heights. Reach and Nuhiu were also booked.

The defeat at Wigan was a nil pointer; but there were four points from the home draw with Millwall. Odubajo picked up a late yellow card to move two points clear of Hutch. With the latter appearing to be out of favour has Odubajo already got enough points on the board? Reach, Bannan and Iorfa were the other recipients.

The one consolation of an awful run is that there are usually plenty of Alan Harper Award points won.

At Luton Tom Lees got two points for conceding the early penalty, and Connor Wickham one for a yellow card.

In today's defeat to Reading it was three points for young full back Osaze Urhoghide for his two yellows red card, and two points for Dominic Iorfa for his late penalty conceding trip.

Another points heavy game. Our visit to Birmingham brought an own goal and five yellow cards.

Murphy's three points for his own goal are his first Alan Harper Award points; whilst the yellows went to Bannan, Lees, Forestieri, Fox and Fletcher.

Bannan moves into joint third, and with the top two unlikely to feature much, he could still be in with a chance.

My money's on nobody being able to catch Odubajo.

P_O_T_R, 22/02/2020 at 21:08

This, this, this and this again. Their big lad is always a tough opponent without the ref. repeatedly allowing him to barge Tom Lees out from under the ball before it arrives, particularly in the 1st half. If the ball's not in playing range then it's a foul every time.
A special mention for the lino on our left in the 1st half. What an absolute wanker. Gave them a throw that was ours every day of the week. Ref. corrected him and gave it us. Went straight out again off one of theirs. Same fucking lino simply couldn't wait to get his flag up and give it them. You could actually see in his cocksure body language that this was revenge for us causing his embarrassment. WRONG! You caused it yourself by your absolute incompetence. Tosspot!

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Sorry, I forgot the big one. When they assaulted Jacob Murphy just outside the box, surely the only question was whether it was a yellow or a red. Slammed him to earth with a violent smash between the shoulder blades. You could tell how vicious it had been by the distance between where the free kick was given and whete the victim was being treated. The result? No punishment. Obviously.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

To be fair, I missed it too, but for Murphy to actually stop playing is pretty conclusive.

I don't think I've been very consistent on that issue over the years; but yes it makes sense that he doesn't have those points - I'll take them off on the next update

And he missed the penalty seconds before Bannan scored.

To be fair, I missed it too, but for Murphy to actually stop playing is pretty conclusive.
WallaceAndGrummitt, 23/02/2020 at 09:37

Or perhaps Murphy is just yet another player who doesn't play to the whistle?

If he’d stayed on the drubbing might not have happened. Your rules but the sending off changed the game even though he shouldn’t have gone.
DPCSF, 23/02/2020 at 14:12

I think that is the reason why I have sometimes left the points on.

It did happen, and it did affect the game.

In a way it is no different to an incorrectly brandished yellow card, or awarded penalty - just that there is never an official judgement on them.

Ha ha.

Referee incompetency has always been a big factor in the AHA

Yellows for Bannan and Iorfa v Derby.

Bannan's definitely got his eye on a second AHA title I reckon, as he did his best to upgrade his yellow to a red today.

I thought so too, Cheat. No way was that a Yellow card. Palmer clearly slipped, FFS!

A free kick was all that was needed.

Its now or never

Bannan's definitely not given this up. His booking at Brentford brings him to within three points of the leader. Fletcher also made his way into the ref's notebook.
