I'm starting this thread a little later in the season than usual, and we have Steven Fletcher close to being the first to hit the milestone.

I have to be honest and say that I think we have next to no chance of this being the season where we hit the exclusive four; in fact I would not be surprised if Fletcher was the only one to make it.

Four players scoring ten (or more) goals doesn't seem that big a deal, but it rarely happens.

We last did it in 2006-07 - Deon Burton (13), Steve MacLean (13), Marcus Tudgay (11) and Chris Brunt (10).

Prior to that it was the 90-91 glory season - David Hirst (32), Paul Williams (17), John Sheridan (12) and Nigel Pearson (12).

And the one before that, 85-86 - Lee Chapman (15), Brian Marwood (15), Carl Shutt (13) and Mel Sterland (11).

So, as you can see, it is that big a deal.

For this thread I take the very simplistic calculation of goals scored in the number of games we've had so far and assume that the players will score at the same ratio in the remaining games.

So with Fletcher on eight goals from the 21 league and cup game we've played, he's on course for another 11 from the remaining 28 (at least) games, to leave him with a final tally of 19.

Harris and Nuhiu have three so far, and therefore should get another four; Murphy and Luongo have struck twice, and so should finish the season on five.

Our single scorers should just get another one.

All assuming Fletch stays fit and doesn't leave in January, just saying.

Looking back Pearson and Sterland were even more brilliant than I remember!

Mel was a fierce penalty taker and Nutty Nige liked to get up at corners. Can see Borner in double figures if he stays long enough.

Pearson had a one off season where he got goals, it wasn't a regular occurrence.

How many do you reckon Hirst would have scored playing instead of Fletcher this season or last (for the sake of the so called comedians, I mean when Hirst was in his prime)

I don't think Zico Sterland got proper recognition for how good he was for us. Probably was slightly detracted by the fact he went to dirty L**ds, but he didn't go there direct.

My memory has one of Pearson or Shirtliff scoring from a set piece in practically every game.

Shirtliff only got four that season, and as Reesh said it was a real one off from Pearson; he only got 20 for us in total. That said it was from 218 starts, so a one in ten ratio, which is pretty good for a centre half I guess.

Happy Times back then
But association togger has moved on.
Yes the big centre half still scores from corners or free kicks around the box.
But no where near as regularly as back then.
Plus they didn't play tippy tappy around the box.
The games changed
But fook me what value would sterland be today??
