This.
I was delighted when we signed Forestieri, his first season was everything I hoped we'd get from him. Skillful, instinctive, pure quality and the player to get folks off their seats like we'd missed for so long.

However, after his impetuous attitude, contract strop and the whole pushbike to training 'quip' just tainted his image from then on and hes never really been the same.

Yes, there's been flashes of brilliance, that goal at Norwich for example is one of the best goals we've scored in ages. Its genius. And its those bits that we just hope would happen with as much regularity as the skill, creativity and goals in 15/16 did.

This covid outbreak COULD be seen as something we can profit from in a perverse way.
Big earners out, level the wage structure somewhat, get in players who WANT to play for us, not for the daft wage. There'll be plenty out there not able to get the wages they were used to.

We all get sentimental about players and largely, I'll be positive when it comes to Nando. But he'll also be part of the 'almost' group who had the chance to become legends but ultimately fell at the last.

Fletcher's arrival did it for Forestieri.

Paid too much, effectively lost his place in team or played out of position to accomodate him.All went downhill for him.

Should have built a side around him & Hooper

Hooper and FF didn't work though did it? Seem to recall in that run to the play offs after Hooper had signed there was a weird stat that neither scored while the other was playing or summat?!

The Fletcher signing set alarm bells ringing for me. "We build from the back.." then signed a striker who mainly scores in a direct team or one that gets loads of crosses in. If his signing meant we were going to go more direct, I had no problem with that, but we played the same way with too many forwards. Then signed two more in the January that didn't really suit our style of play either.

There's been no logic to the
recruitment for a long time and whilst I think FF should've given us a few more weeks, I wonder how disillusioned some of the players have been the last two or three years with players getting bombed and a promotion chasing team being managed by Jos, Bullen or Monk. We all know there is no loyalty in football any more, so the incentive is a winning/successful team

Chansiri and his people have obtained players that the coaches have not used to best effect for whatever reason. This area still needs addressing for the future of the club.
We need a "Wednesday way" strategy throughout the club. I think this was suggested a few years ago at the top level.
The first team coaching staff have been below par in my opinion but our overall football playing policy reminds me of trying to fit a butt plug in a tortoise.

Fuck 'em. This city will always be ours.

Must have forgot FF setting up Hooper time and again then.

We'd need to figure out which end was which first, Bri.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Hopefully people will recognise Nuhiu as someone who genuinely recognises the club is in a relegation battle and is willing to put the club before his own interests on this occasion (like they do Lee). Well done that man.

The others can do one though, good riddance. I have some sympathy with Fox who has always given his all yet suffered dogs abuse at time for it.

Personally Fox was dogshit for a lot of his time with us but has slowly turned it around to being consistently slightly above average - no more. He can go and hopefully Penney can stake his claim next season and battle it out with Palmer.
Fletcher has been a hit in recent times and has played his best football for the club but still gets injured a lot - mainly cos he puts himself about. He is the one I will miss but if Rhodes and Wickham start next season together with Murphy and Harris providing the ammo then I’ll be happy with that.
Nando has all the tools to be a premier player but his attitude is that of a twelve year old boy and I think it’s time to look to the new crop of players.

On the whole I’m going to give Monk the chance to show what he can do with the squad next season.
I’d be looking to put Lee alongside Alex Hunt with Harris and Murphy with Reach in front of them if we’re going 3-5-2.
Bannan can go too for me if we can get a few quid. When is his contract up?

Given the dearth of quality never mind quantity of players available to us, getting rid of Bannan - by far our most skilful and creative player - would be madness.

I ask you will Galway bate Mayo? Not if they have Willie Joe...they haven't a hope of beating Mayo!

A lot of this is probably down to the coach not being in full control of player recruitment. Chansiri had Pearson and Roeder when he first took over then Carlos, Amadeu, and Doyen turned up.
Carlos had a way of playing (he'd written a book) but then strange signings turned up that didn't fit in that way.
Then came the two players for every position debacle.
Jos decided to play the kids rather than the over staffing he inherited, maybe because he thought he could mould them better to his way of thinking. I'm pretty certain he wasn't involved in any signings during his stint.

Bruce brought his own recruitment team in and it showed promise. I actually think we'd have been getting rid of the same players If Bruce had stayed. He likes his own players and we'd have seen more ins and outs in January as well.

Monk was left with a hotchpotch of Chansiri/Paixao buys and Bruce incomings. He's done nothing with them.
He'll still be around At the start of next season so it'll be an interesting transfer window and pre season.
But, as others have pointed out, he's not exactly made astute signings in the past. Anyone who spunks £14m and £40k a week on Assimbalonga and £10m on Martin Braithwaite needs their bumps feeling
