Two forwards Wednesday have been linked with have had multi million price tags placed on them.
Plymouth have slapped £5m on Luke Jephcott
Blackpool have a £2m tag on Jerry Yates.

Yates is a 1 in 2 striker, this season, and Blackpool picked him up from Rotherham for £200k after he came through their academy. They have a 15% sell on.

Apparently he wasn't good enough for Wednesday. He was looked at 3 times, during his academy years, but thought not good enough, even though he scored for fun.

He did the usual run round the non league clubs on a month here and a month there then went on loan to Swindon and hit 1 in 3.
At the time he was 4th choice at Rotherham and Blackpool tracked him through the Swindon loan and Yates wanted 1st team football.
£200k plus 15% was better than him running his contract down as Rotherham's academy status meant they'd pick up £125k at most.o

I suppose what I'm trying to get at is three fold.
Blackpool are sitting on a player that will go for over a million in the summer that we could have had at 15, 16, and 18.
Rotherham saw what was coming and negotiated a deal that technically put them in profit over the player that could have been deemed surplus to their requirements.
We either let under 23 contracts run out and watch them go for nothing or fail to negotiate a deal that's beneficial to the club.

There are kids with Championship first team experience who we will probably let go for nothing in July.
We're not even trying to get nominal sums for them. Not even saying, look son we're not going to keep you but we'll try and get £50-75k for you and you'll get 10%
We don't even try

For every player we look at and release/don’t sign that goes on to make it I bet there are 500 that don’t make it.

Our youth system and recruitment is laughable but it’s a bit rich to blame them for isolated missed success stories.

Listen. We were reportedly turning down 12 million for Forestieri, 3 million for Nuhiu, 6 million for Bannan, 12 million for Adam Reach, 2 million for Fletcher, 6 million for Tom Lees.

All of them have either or will end up leaving for nowt.

Aren’t Joao, Hunt and Wiggins the only players who have left for a fee in Chansiri’s reign?

Hirst and Shaw were/are tribunal bound right? So we didn’t agree a fee, it’s just what the tribunal will decide/decided is fair. Grant, we deffo accepted a bid for him. Fair point.

DC admitted he got it wrong on Nando, admits we should've cashed in.

Reach would've been sold for that sum, along with Fletcher (who I personally didn't rate) Lees also at £6m

Joao would still be at S6 along with Hunt.

It's just the thought of going from Hooper, Joao, FF to god knows who next season.

He Who Dares.

Whilst I think DC should have been more open minded on accepting transfer deals for some of those players, the reality is taking £12m for Forestieri might then have required spending £12m on a replacement of similar standard.

Net cash position ends up being zero, possibly worse with agents fees etc to add on to a purchase.

The skill is of course in selling a player at the peak of their value and being able to replace to the same standard for half the price.

Our recruitment record shows that holding on to what we had was slightly less worse than replacing them.

That is the fear here, we will require a major re-build but if there is a similar process to the past I question the quality of the choices

Happy clapping for 4 years more than Emre

A youth system of our academy status is supposed to be able to bring through one first team player around every 18-24 months, out of squads of around 20-25 each year.
But it's also supposed to produce 3-4 players in the same timeframe that can be moved on for a fee.
Out of a squad of 25, every two years, 5 should be going on to play some form of league football.

We don't scout at 14, 15 we hold trials. We don't watch school games or Sunday games.
I don't think we even have tie ins with local junior clubs anymore which we used to use as stepping stones
The latest 'big thing' was brought in by his dad while he was coaching here.

Any parent who's lad is good enough for an academy should stay well clear of ours, do their homework, and look to Barnsley, Doncaster, and even the pigs.

I'll defend DC forever for turning down Newcastle's advances toward FF.

Too easy to look back on that decision (or any) with the benefit of hindsight, but at the time the decision was widely supported. The abuse DC gets on social media now would be nothing in comparison to what he'd have got if he'd sold FF, he was the talisman that was going to take us to the premier league and fuck me he so nearly did.

Also, the figures being bandied about seem to have been exaggerated with time, seem to recall it was £10m at the time and that was paper talk.

The decision not to sell FF was stupid. As soon as he pulled that stunt at the Norwich match I’d have cashed in for as much as possible. There are many lines a footballer can cross, but refusing to play isn’t one. Wanker, in my opinion.
