The Star are suggesting there will be NO contract news today, the next chance they'll get to speak to the club is tomorrow.

Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy looks set to remain with Sheffield Wednesday

Murphy's initial Owls deal was due to run out after Sunday's clash at Bristol City

Jacob Murphy looks set to remain at Sheffield Wednesday for the rest of the 2019/20 season, Yorkshire Live understands.

The winger's initial deal was due to run out following Sunday's trip to Bristol City

But Jamie Moralee, Murphy's representative, expects Murphy's parent club Newcastle United to give the Owls the green light to extend the player's short-term stay beyond June 30.

Moralee, of New Era Global Sports Management, said: "As far as I am aware, Newcastle are continuing to let him stay at Wednesday until the end of the season.

"Garry Monk (the Wednesday boss) told Jacob that he wanted him to stay and Jacob said he wanted to stay and we thought it was a foregone conclusion between the two clubs for Jacob to sign an extension.

"Jacob doesn't want to go back. He is happy and enjoying his football. In his eyes, he was going to stay beyond 30 and finish the season strong.

"I know it is looking unlikely but Jacob wants to hopefully fight and try and get the club in the play-offs.

"He likes the city, the people, the players and the staff. He has fitted in very well with the club.

"People have been saying he has been one of the better performers this season."

Murphy featured at right wing-back on Saturday as Wednesday fought back to secure a point against Nottingham Forest. The 25-year-old has clocked up 36 appearances since arriving at S6 in August, contributing five goals and one assist.

"Jacob has said to me that it is the most enjoyable loan that he has had," said Moralee. "He is thoroughly enjoying his football at Sheffield Wednesday.

"He loves the staff, the backroom people and feels that he is just starting to hit his straps. There is certainly more to come from him but he feels part of the team."

Murphy would be open to returning to to Wednesday next season, according to Moralee. His future is up in the air at Newcastle, with the Premier League club in talks over a Saudi Arabian-led takeover.

"I would say Sheffield Wednesday are in the box-seat because he is very happy with his surroundings," he said. "They have made him feel welcome and I think that is something the club has on their side.

"He is enjoying his football and he is playing every week which is the key for him.

"Yes, there is going to be competition for him for next season because he is a Premier League player at Newcastle and on his day he can light up the Championship.

"Other people can offer and sell the dream but, if he is already living it, then it is going to take a good offer for him to divert from the club.

"But, at the same time, he is happy at Sheffield Wednesday and he would like to stay longer than he is at the moment.

"If Wednesday want to keep him for next season and there is capacity to do that, then I think that is something we can work on."

Some nice words there....

He has shown flashes of brilliance and then flashes of infuriating play whenever I've seen him.

Would the general consensus be keep him or let him go back next season?

Would keep the kid at S6, he gets it, you only have to look at how he reacted to the Brentford fefeat, it hurt...

Unlike some of the tossers we have at S6, stealing a wage

The Owls can confirm that Paul Jones, Kieran Lee and Atdhe Nuhiu have signed short term contract extensions to the end of the current campaign.

The 2019/20 season was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and authorisation was granted for clubs to extend the contracts of players due to expire on 30 June.

Wednesday’s final scheduled game is against Middlesbrough on Wednesday 22 July.

Offers were made to Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri and Morgan Fox, which were declined.

Sam Hutchinson and Sam Winnall will be released from the club upon the expiry of their contracts on 30 June.

Talks remain ongoing regarding loan extensions for Alessio Da Cruz, Jacob Murphy, Connor Wickham and Josh Windass.

David Bates will return to his parent club Hamburg at the end of June.

Sheffield Wednesday would like to thank all the departing players for their services and wish them well for the future.

Obviously there is another side to the story, as in the deals would be less than they were on now, that I have no doubt.

But.....

I bet they're far from skint and could manage a reduction!

Whilst we've know we wouldn't see Sam Hutchinson in our shirt again, it is a little disappointing we can't give him a send off.

Yes, he's had his injury problems. Yes, he overcommitted in the tackle many times.
But I loved his endeavour and ability. At times he was an absolute animal and the opposition must have hated him.

Whatever has happened behind the scenes with the manager and previous managers would suggest there's no smoke without fire to rumours. But, on the field I'll always remember his absolute passion and seeming love of the game whenever he played.
