Fucking crisp muncher on match of the day has just said Jack managed Sheffield United.

Can't even get his obituary right.

What an absolute tosser that man is.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Couple of things from reading these posts...

1. Just realised a lot of us are a similar age (we'll, apert from Bricat and Owling 😂)

2. Actually how Big Jack saved us.

3. The term legend is banded about too easily but Jack is definitely one.

I too remember Big Jack as the first Wednesday manager I recall. I'm 50 and went quite a lot back then with my old man even though we lived in Leicester. I was there 26/12/79 but also moving into my teens witnessed the resurgence. I had no idea how bad it had been early 70s but big Jack was just that, not big necessarily in statue although he was but character.
This was epitomised by what he did with Ireland.
I was lucky enough to go into the dressing room circa 10 years old straight after the match with Vic who knew Jack. Sterland etc there and so willing to sign my autograph book.
RIP a true Wednesday legend

I’ve listened to his Desert Island Discs appearance this morning. He doesn’t talk about us at all but is a really good listen.

Love that story Sterland tells of Big Jack, frustrated at the quality of free kicks in training, strolls up to a ball fag in mouth and wearing wellies, wax jacket and his flat cap says to Mel “this is what I want” and belts it in the top corner.

Best commentary from him at Balckburn in the Semi

"John Sheridan one of my lads plays for the Republic of Ireland "
