Givens. Stein. Hopkins .Elliott .Unsworth.. Heroes, one and all. Add Simonsen to the growing list

Jonk was really good in his first year.
Hinchcliffe was quality regardless although his knee issues were well documented when he joined. And that ultimately did him.

I must agree with Steve Downes. Played alongside him for 5 years in Leeds prior to him signing for Rotherham. He did score on his debut in a 2-1 win over Sunderland, Boxing Day 1969.

My top 5.

Abdi - easily the worst deal of my lifetime.
Jeffers
Rhodes - great on paper, woeful in reality.
De Bilde
Bothroyd - up there with De Bilde when it comes to attitude.

I thought Mciver came through our youth system ? , Blondeau was Pleat's fault good player in a particular system but unfortunately not the one Wednesday played . Plus Wednesday renaged on every promise they made to him so why should he care

Blondeau I was really excited to see as he was one of the best right backs in French football and highly regarded in Europe too. But, measured by his performances, the fee paid, he was an abject failure.

Larry May.
Absolute bobbins.

Dave Bennett, shudder at the thought.

Kim Olsen.

The Swedish keeper who's name escapes me....

Jay Bothroyd. Absolute whopper.

Almen Abdi

Urby.

Jeffers for God sake, an absolute piss take of a signing.
Craig Armstrong

I could go on for ages on this, but I agree with Reesh, classing Antonio as a mistake is bobbins.

Hoyland - the Swedish keeper was Tidman.

Of course there are cracks, that's how the light gets in.

Absolutely this.
But for whatever reason it just didn't work... So for a 3m+ signing, who was akin to lord lucan in his final year, I'd say was a VERY bad signing.

Of course but that's hindsight and that's easy

For me a "bad signing" has to be one that was obviously bad at the time

Abdi was a brilliant signing that didn't work out to due to circumstances it was impossible to have forseen

Jonk was an excellent player. He played in a great Holland team. He just didn't give a shit about us after relegation. (Not alone there)
Hinchcliffe was a crock. He failed a medical at Spurs just before gold finger signed him.

I think there is some in hindsight going on here.

I was happy /excited with quite a few of the names that were banded about on the thread, such as Abdi, Sinton, Blondeau, Jonk and even Bothroyd (well sort of), it's hard to know unless you are on the inside whether those on the inside should have known better,e.g. Hinchcliffes knee etc.

It's fair to say we've had some right dross in the last 20 years, but again some of those signed, particularly when we barely had two buttons to rub together I suspect we had few choices.

It's a big couple of months though.

It’s easy to be a genius in hindsight isn’t it, nobody can ever say Woods, Sinton, Booth, Blondeau (plus Jonk and Hinchcliffe as others have suggested) were bad signings on the face of it.

De Bilde, Sibon, Donnelly and O’Donnell were disastrous on their wages though. Even if they played to the maximum of their ability they were not worth the money. Rhodes and Winnall (an utterly pointless signing) similar.

I was buzzing when we signed Abdi based on ability so even he was a good signing on the face of it. I just think Watford had our absolute pants down, they clearly knew he was done and we obviously didn’t hold a proper medical, which in this day and age is ridiculous.
