Well... For the 20/21 season anyway..

https://www.swfc.co.uk/news/2020/august/b annan-takes-owls-armband/

Garry Monk has revealed that Barry Bannan will assume captain duties for the 2020/21 campaign.

The Owls’ boss confirmed the switch after Bannan led out the team for the goalless draw with Leicester at Loughborough on Saturday.

He exclusively told swfc.co.uk: “I have spoken to Barry and Tom Lees and I’ve made that decision - I just feel Baz is at that stage here at Sheffield Wednesday where I want to challenge him and that is the reason for him having that captain’s armband.

“We all know how good a player he is but for him to go to that next step, another level that we’re going to need this season, this is a way of challenging that.

“With Tom, he’s been fantastic, he understands that it’s best for Barry and for the team in that sense.

“Tom is a leader anyway whether he has the armband or not, he’s a true leader with the standards he sets every day and everyone respects him for that and that will not be diminished.”

He'll be playing then, for all those who seem to hate him.

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

Nobody hates him Fred.

I do think his style of play isn't what we need.

If he:

plays 20yds more forward;
hits quick, direct passes,
quits the Hollywood passes; and
promises never to go anywhere near a corner or free kick

Then I think he will be an integral and important part of the team.

Some give a good impression, Bendy. Me, I admire him for his effort and sheer commitment, as well as his skills, but i also feel pretty much what you've said in your "if he" paragraph. He irritates the tits off me some games. That said, I wouldn't like to see us without him. Not until / unless we've got better.

I fear we lost FF because of him, no room for two divas in the team

I'm sure Monk has sat him down and explained his new responsibilities to him in respect of encouraging the younger players and that he can't be moaning and fucking groaning like a wet fanny and that the sulking has to stop. Could be the making of him (fingers crossed).

If we lost FF because of BB then he's already done the club a favour.

He made some good passes today and the cross for Reach deserved better, but he also got caught on the ball quite a bit which is a worry in the Championship.

I don't think it's too bad a call from Monk, you assume he's thinking about how often each of the likely candidates is likely to play as well as their influence on the team. It might actually be a good thing for Lees to just concentrate on his own game. It's all about choices and opinions. The only other options I wondered about was Dunkley, but might be asking a bit much for a new player to take it on straight away.

There DEFINITELY was room for both of them in their first season with us. They clicked big time.

Since then.... Not so. But as also said, FF was the object of his own demise.
