5 years....
Thinking back.. What a game that was. We were so good that night. I've always had a large dislike for Arsenal because of 93, so to absolutely destroy them like we did that night is something that still makes me smile even now.

All 3 goals have their own 'charm' if you will, be it a simplicity or just very well worked.

That game was for me one of the best performances we saw under Carlos, if not the best one. We had a unity that night, a togetherness and arguably a little cockiness or arrogance too that just topped it off.

Also... The atmosphere. Whilst not the best ever, but to just be reminded of what we're missing in going to games right now. Watching it back this morning (highlights) just makes it even more poignant.

What a night that was. Simply epic. The grin on Hutch's face when he turned round sat in the net at the kop end. Truly fantastic!

Please, please Wednesday lets have more like this!

There are two games where I left it to the very last moment before deciding to go.
This was one of them. The mrs literally had to kick me out the door to go, even though I'd already got my ticket. I just couldn't get in the mood until I got off the M1 and into the Parkway.
So so glad I went though. Came back buzzing and it stayed with me for quite a while.

The other game I almost missed...
Waddle's ripping apart of West Ham

The optimism that started to build after that performance was clear.

Some day for me that was. Crack of dawn on a train down to Bath to see a client and then Back to Meadowhall in the nick of time to drive over to Hillsborough,. A bit like Ty I wasn't sure about going I was thinking it would probably be a valiant but falling short effort. TBH I don't know if we would have got the result if they hadn't lost 3 of their seemingly better players to injury but I would hope we would have, not that it matters anyway.

The first and second goals were excellent, I really thought we had discovered a player in Joao, maybe Reading have!

Comparing the feeling around the club to now is like night and day.

Tank, wasn't it Brighton in the home semi that lost all the (4) players to injury?

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

I didn't think I was going to get to the game, despite having a ticket. Some weeks earlier I'd put my name down for a recurrent training course, without them being able to give me a date for it. Of course it came up on that damned date! I normally worked nights so could get to night matches, leave slightly early and still get to work in time. But they swapped me to the late shift so I was there for the all day 'til late course. Doomed!
Without any real hope, I worked the game into a chat I was having with the travelling instructor. He didn't say anything. But later, when the second break was approaching, he suddenly announced that he needed to be somewhere later so we were going to work on through and finish early. I noticed that he looked down at the desk as he said it. What a bloke!
I still got away ludicrously late and it was a big gate so everywhere I knew to park was full. Legging it with earphones in with Radio Sheff broadcasting the game, I'd just set foot in Hillsborough Park when tge first goal went in. I didn't need the earphones. The sheer explosion of noise right across the park in the darkness was astonishing, like being hit by a forcefield!
I got round to the North Stand and just got to the top of the gangway steps as the crowd sucked its breath in, looked to the right and saw Joao's header sail into the net. Cue pandemonium!
What a night! What a memory: I can feel it now. Somehow the fact that I wasn't with everybody else, not doing anything I'd 'normally' do, makes it such a clear memory. I'd like to meet that instructor again, somehow, just to say thank you again. It was just blind faith that made me take my ticket to work, knowing I couldn't go. He did tge rest!

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

This goes in the great games at Hillsborough that I missed folder.

Given the dearth of them that is actually quite annoying

Happy clapping for 4 years more than Emre

Can't beat a game under the lights, just made it that bit more special for some reason.
The whole feeling of optimism around at that time, loved our kit, loved our manager and was proud of our team for the first time in years, take me back!

We will p*ss it

For some weird reason I kept thinking they were us! (Only very briefly and occasionally), that night. Blink I know why: they were virtually wearing our then away strip, which I loved, but it was still a disturbing and unsettling feeling to experience, even if only for a couple of seconds each time. Especially as I can't stand bloody Arsenal! Grr

We must not give opposition teams hope. We have to kill them.

What a night that was, and the catalyst for our new Wednesday under Carlos & then Bruno.

Promotion the next year, consecutive top 6 PL finishes & Europa League runs - who can forget that night in Napoli!!

OK, we've come off the boil a bit since Ibrahimovic retired and Carlos took the England Job (Fair does he won us the World Cup in 2018) but that win against Arsenal is 100% the foundation for our return to the PL and as a real force in English & European Football.
