Meanwhile, in the real world...there seems to be plenty of British businesses not prepared to let the supposed benefits of this shitty Brexit deal take 'a bit of time' (how long is that, by the way?) to materialise or put up with the 'odd blip or two' are preparing to vote with their feet, put thousands of British workers out of work and move their jobs to Europe instead. But yeah, keep the faith...Rolleyes

Thing is Franco, if they've decided to do that then there's nothing that can be done to change their minds is there. Brexit ceased to be Brexit on the 1st January and became "We're Out"...There's no way it can ever be reversed now so why beat yourself up about something you can't do anything about.

For every job that is lost there will be another one created and Britons being the innovative clever people that they are, will prosper without the dead hand of the EU pressing down on their shoulder.

The recent petulant statements from the EU threatening to invoke a clause to close the Irish border without even having the courtesy to inform the Irish government tells you all you need to know about that organisation and the peevish people who run it.

They know that now we are free of them we will prosper while they will sink deeper into the political and financial morass they have brought on themselves.

Move on.

You really have fallen for Boris's windbaggery, haven't you? As Bradders said, you really don't get it. The reality of Brexit, that is.

Sorry CDLF I won't "move on"- why should anyone? We don't (yet) live in a totalitarian state where all dissent is suppressed. The fact that our economy is being swiftly destroyed by this decision matters too much and can't be as blithely ignored like you'd prefer it to be. You, skamp, Andyben and your other Brexit cheerleaders may be blind to/unaffected by/ insulated from what's happening, but there's plenty of people and their families in the UK who are losing/going to lose their livelihoods and suffer because of the Brexit lies of Johnson and his accomplices. Sadly, this seems to be regarded as acceptable collateral damage by you and your ilk for the next God knows how many years before this country gets back to its pre-Brexit economic strength...if it ever does.
You may regard me as one of 'the usual suspects running the country down' (on this issue, definitely and that's fine by me) but that's not something you can level against the UK businessmen and financiers who have judged that the best way forward for them because of Brexit is to move their enterprises from the UK to Europe. Which is probably why in his reply Andyben concentrated on criticising the messenger, rather than the full message.

I ask you will Galway bate Mayo? Not if they have Willie Joe...they haven't a hope of beating Mayo!

Baresi, the message was UK Companies are setting up in the EU.

True, and of course they are, it's what I've done for a living for 25yrs.

You set up a subsidiary in local markets to take advantage of local taxes and regulations to ease import of your goods & services.

We're using Bulgaria mainly, VERY favourable tax rates, and less sniffy than Cyprus or Malta.

This is not companies moving production but using people like me and my counterparts in EU countries to establish SPVs, managed by law firms/accountants etc to make things easier and lower tax impact.

No job losses, just a lovely opportunity to screw the EU on taxes

I'm having a dig at the messenger because of how it's packaged and presented to people, sadly like you, who are taking a perverse joy at any perceived sign of failure.

Does it make sense to you?

Wonder how many more people would have died through covid this year if the UK had listened to alll the Guardian commentators and LabourmLib Dem MPs and signs up to the the EU vaccination agreement.

Should have learnt from the advantages that the UK gained by not taking part in the EU PPE /Ventilator fiasco last year that Britain has s best served outised that behemoth

But at least the EU have vaccinated more people than in Africa.

To put it into perspective: Thanks to the joint work of 27 governments, @EU_Commission, researchers, companies vaccinated 12 million people in 3 weeks. 128 countries have not yet started vaccinating, e.g. Japan, South Africa. So far, only 20,000 people have been vaccinated in Africa. https://t.co/lqPxo5YF17

Nowt in today's Guardian or on the BBC about the NHS murdering Captain Tom?

£33m he raised and that's how the bastards repaid him - still at least they can afford a few more diversity officers and forced gender reassignments on young kids.

Should have sold it to Trump when we had the chance

See, this is what Brexit has given us. The freedom to choose.

Knew you'd all come round.

As an aside, Sir Tom's daughter is one pushy madam. Its going to be like the Mccan's where it will be a criminal offence to question why she'd dragged him off to Barbados when he should have been shielding.

Thank you

Glad it's not just me that thinks that.

T'owd lad has done his best for people, just like he has throughout.

But for me, the family have used him for their own gains.

Sorry , but that is how i see it and have done since it started.

RIP Top Man

If you have a knighthood should you really want to end the monarchy? Ought you to relinquish your title and the benefits attached to it? It has to be better than defending paedos for a living and getting convicted terrorists released early for them to attack people on a bridge in London. Or is that why you gave up the day job? Asking for someone who wonders what fence is wide enough for you to sit on.

Fuck 'em. This city will always be ours, but the club SADLY won't.
