So Tee asked me in the other transfer thread who’d be on my potential shopping list. Darren Moore should already have one, from his time at Doncaster, and I believe it would be transferable to us; but my list is below. To be honest it's just a quick skim of what's potentially out there and what would fit.
I’m going on the assumption that none of our ‘stars’ that have contracts ending will be staying. That leaves us with.
Wildsmith, Dawson (plus the academy keepers)
Iorfa, Dunkley, Borner, Palmer
Luongo, Dele-Bashiru, Bannan, Green (if he’s staying)
Adedoyen, Paterson, Windass
So I’ve looked at players to plug the gaps. I’ve also taken into account our possible financial constraints and gone for loans or players coming to the end of their contracts.
First off, I’d give one year extensions to Brennan, Waldock, Hunt and Hughes. They provide cover and I think there’s potential there.
I’d also give a one year extension to Hutchinson and Penney, but I’d push Penney further up the pitch as an out and out wide player and cover for Green (if he’s staying)

Goalkeepers
Already said we should be aiming for Alex Palmer but just seen Jordan Archer has been bench warming at Middlesbrough and his contract runs out in June. He did ok at Millwall so he could be an alternative idea if we look for a permanent first choice.

Defenders
Reece James left back (contract ending)
Currently at Donny and I’d like Moore to go back and get him. Ever present since he joined from Sunderland. Strong tackler and very solid. Eye for goal too with 7 goals this season.

Jack Tucker center half (contract ending)
Currently at Gillingham and gained a lot of interest in his breakthrough last season. Fat boy Evans tried to start a bidding war between Celtic and Rangers and Leeds, West Ham, and Southampton all regularly sent scouts to watch him. He’s stalling on a new contract in the hope he’ll get a bigger club so I don’t hold out any hope he’d come to us but it depends if Moore could sell his track record of bringing younger players on. He’s very assured in his defending and does make it look easy at times. He’s a lot like Jon Stones was at Barnsley.

Midfielders
Josh Sims right winger (contract ending)
An intriguing one. Moore had to persuade Southampton to take him to Donny and he’s had a dream. I think it was a shop window move and Southampton did try and cash in, in January, but got no takers so he’s a free agent in June. Spent most of his Southampton career out on loan so I don’t think they’ll offer another contract. Did an interview in Southampton local press, early Jan, where he said he loved playing for Moore and wanted to extend his stay at Doncaster if it was possible.

Patrick Sontheimer Centre mid (contract ending)
Currently playing Bundesliga 2 but was on Forest’s radar last summer. He’s only 22, so could bring him across as an academy player and see how he gets on. Primarily defensive mid but can get up and down the pitch as well.

Forwards
Chuks Aneke (contract ending)
Having an absolute worldy at Charlton, out of contract in June and stalling on a new one. Ex Arsenal youth. Averaging just over 1 in 2 this season. Was injured for a lot of 19/20 but scored 19 in 41 for Mk Dons in 18/19. At 27 I think his age will put a lot off but I’d take a punt. He’s an out and out striker. Don’t expect assists but his movement off the ball is sublime.

Folarin Balogun (loan)
Arsenal u23 star forward and if he re-signs then they’ll push him out on loan. 19 years old and been playing in their 23s set up since he was 16. 1 in 2 average in every season he’s played. Only 5’ 8” but very quick and good feet. Been likened to Jermaine Defoe.

Freddie Ladapo (buy)
Another 27 year old. Contracted til June 2022 but Rotherham will listen to offers and he has a buy out clause (rumoured to be around £500-600k). I tracked him last season for another Championship club but they changed managers and didn’t take him. Up to that point he was on his way to another club wearing blue and white stripes. His league 1 stats are immense but I think he could step up and the movement, pace, and goal against us shows what he can do. 17 in 39 in the 19/20 season and 19 in 49 in 18/19

Nelson Olivera (contract ending)
Currently at Athens but wants to come back to England. Just over 1 in 3 for both Norwich and Reading in the Championship. Currently on Forest’s radar. 29 years old.

I still think Lawrie Shankland could do a job in the Championship and Jason Cummings intrigues me. He’s hit 4 in 5 games this season and it’ll be interesting to see if he keeps it up. I know he’s not done well in England previously but has admitted he didn’t exactly apply himself.

Ty - have seen a young lad called Kwadwo Baah playing for Rochdale scoring a couple of cracking goals for them. Looked very quick and physically powerful. Had signed a pre-contract deal last month to join Man City at the end of this season, but has since fallen through. Wondering if you knew of him and whether he might be someone we should go in for?

I ask you will Galway bate Mayo? Not if they have Willie Joe...they haven't a hope of beating Mayo!

I know he's a Scotland international but Jordan Archer is fucking rubbish. I actually laughed when Motherwell signed him.

Shankland has disappointed me this season. You get the impression he knows where the goal is but he seems to have gone backwards the last few months. Not at all convinved he could do it in the Championship. Kevin Nisbet has had a far better season than him, although his game time / goals appear to have dried up since he tried to force a move in the January window.

Watched Cummings on Saturday at Hearts. He was ok but, apart from the penalty he scored, I didn't really think he was overly threatening. If he had anything to offer, surely the likes of Aberdeen would've given him a contract in the top flight, as opposed to second tier Dundee? Old pals act, to help out ex-teammate James McPake? That aside, he's a right loon. Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

I’ve wanted Sims at S6 for ages. Would love Moore to go and get him in.

31 now and may be perceived a bit of lump but would like Matt Smith leading the line.

Out of Contract at Millwall and not sure a starter at thd moment.

I know we want to stay away from older players but might have something to offer.

Would be interesting to see how Shankland would manage South of the Border. Got to be worth a punt.

Givens. Stein. Hopkins .Elliott .Unsworth.. Heroes, one and all. Add Simonsen to the growing list
