Well f*ck me last possible attack and bannan gets it on the half way line and passes it back - so the ref blows for time he must have thought “well if you’re not bothered I’m not”

Obvious gulf in confidence and ability today there.
Yes we did well in the first half, we knew we weren't going to dominate possession and I thought we were quite clever with it. Joey P played very well in there too..

In the second half though we just stepped back further and further and just lost our head. Adam Reach (if he wasn't already) is done as a Wednesday player, today he was aside from a 5 min spell in the first half, AWFUL. His body language, his attempts at passing, keeping possession. He was just a shirt on the pitch, nothing more.

They are a very good side.

We just couldn’t compete with them second half.

There’s no disgrace in getting beaten by the best side in the league, and giving them a good game

The thing that it so frustrating is that if we had played anywhere near that level in games against the likes of Birmingham and Rotherham then today’s defeat wouldn’t matter so much.

Beaten by a fitter, smarter, better team who are top of the league.
We lack fitness and cannot pass out from the back.
But, I see a few green shoots to offer optimism and I think DM will have a big change in playing staff in the summer.

Some perspective required by some here I think and a fairer crack of the whip tbh, I may be a lone voice with this view but you have to give them some credit for parts of the performance.

You’ve lost 6 on the bounce against a team who are 7 points clear and have won six on the bounce. The response was a first half performance that is better than any for several weeks, against a superb side.

For me at least, it showed some signs that if we do go down, we might at least go down fighting. After Rotherham, it looked like we were just surrendering.

One game to match our longest consecutive losing streak apparently.

Losing narrowly to the league leaders is not what is getting us relegated.

That's easier when you've got the players.
Owling_Wolf, 14/03/2021 at 14:09

So Barnsley have better players? Never heard of the majority of them. Their manager made 3 subs at half-time yesterday! Never heard of him either before he went to Barnsley.

What I’ve noticed today and all season, whenever we turn over possession, instead of positioning our body and looking forward, our instinct is to turn towards our own goal and play the ball back. We never look to spring forward and catch a team.
Sam, 14/03/2021 at 14:14

Been like that for ages. Bannan, Reach all guilty of that. That I think was drilled into them its hard to forget it, but again throw in the lack of basic fitness compared to other teams.

They simply do not have the energy to get up and down the pitch for more than 60 minutes. Its why we drop backwards, why there is a huge gap to our forwards, our defenders start to panic.

'Names' don't matter.
Getting the job done does.

And on FACTS this season. Yes they do have the better players, which absolutely pains me to say.

A game is 90 mins long. Please tell me the last time we played well for 90 mins.
I'll repeat. Relegation is a disaster.
