Rhodes Is An Owl

Well it’s finally happened, the transfer saga which has almost drawn on as long as Ben Marshall… Jordan Rhodes is a Sheffield Wednesday player.

The former Ipswich, Huddersfield, Blackburn striker has joined the Wednesday on an initial loan deal from Middlesbrough until the summer before making it a permanent deal in which he will pen a deal until 2021. It has been mooted that the deal could amount to as much as £10m in total, from the loan fee to the transfer in the summer but as with almost all Wednesday’s deals now, the official figures are undisclosed.

But what a 24 hours or so it’s been, from the rumours starting early yesterday afternoon about the 26 year old Scotland international coming to Hillsborough to the news from various media outlets that it was all but a done deal, only for the transfer deadline to pass without any confirmation.

But the last 14 or so hours have been nervy to say the least, since that deadline passed but thankfully the Football League ratified the deal and were happy that the necessary paperwork was done, so it could be confirmed as a done deal this afternoon.

We all know what Rhodes is capable of, from the four goals he scored for Huddersfield Town in that ridiculous 4-4 game in our promotion season from League One, and the last time he scored at Hillsborough for Blackburn in March 2015 when Rovers won 2-1.

He’s hit almost 200 goals over his career to date (188) and for him to hit that milestone of a double century, hopefully for the Owls, would no doubt be a special moment as he joins a club which he told SWFC.CO.UK that he is ‘chuffed to bits’ to finally be a part of.

Our newest addition will wear the number 17 shirt for the Wednesday and hopefully, he’ll get the chance to get off the scoring mark for his new club this Friday in front of the Sky cameras as the Owls face Wigan Athletic.

Welcome, Jordan……
