First Player Comes In

Wednesday have today confirmed the signing of 31 year old attacking midfielder, George Boyd, on a free transfer on a two year contract.

The Scotland international joins the Wednesday after being released by Premier League side, Burnley, with whom he was with for almost three years and made over 100 appearances. Boyd comes to Hillsborough after turning down the chance to stay at Turf Moor and called the move to South Yorkshire a 'no brainer'.

The former Stevenage, Peterborough, Nottingham Forest and Burnley man has a wealth of experience in terms of Championship football and promotion to and from the division. He first played in the second tier when he helped the Posh to promotion and then after that in his initial loan spell with Hull City and then with Burnley he has been in sides who were promoted to the Premier League.

His aim now is for a third promotion to the top flight with the Owls and he told SWFC.CO.UK that it's a realistic aim with a side who have come so close over the past couple of seasons.

“Obviously the club have been close over the last two years and hopefully I can help get them over the line,” said Boyd. “It is a club that needs to be in the Premier League with the fans and the structure of the club.

We welcome George to the club and wish him all the best in his first training sessions as an Owl tomorrow up at Middlewood Road, and of course look forward to seeing him out on the pitch in the new kit when the Championship season kicks off in early August at Preston North End.
