Bees Buzz Into Town

Brentford come to Hillsborough tonight to spoil the good feeling around the place after the Wednesday defeated Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Bees definitely upset the apple cart last season when they turned The Owls over.

Wednesday could extend a run without defeat to six games this evening, while the opposition will be keen to get a grip on a season which so far has had more downs than ups so far. Brentford have only won once to date this season, but that wasn’t in the League and they currently sit in 23rd spot in the table with the Wednesday aiming to breach the top six with victory tonight.

There are a number of worries for Carlos Carvalhal tonight ,Jack Hunt, Steven Fletcher, Kieran Lee and Ross Wallace are all doubts for selection tonight. But such is the depth of the Owl’s squad currently their replacements aren’t too shabby should they need to be called upon.

Jacob Butterfield will be looking to get a first league start and would be the logical choice to replace Lee, George Boyd could replace Wallace, Jordan Rhodes would replace Fletcher and Liam Palmer would come in to replace Hunt. Whether Joost Van Aken is to partner Tom Lees again in the heart of the defence remains to be seen, but Frederico Venancio could step in if Carvalhal thinks two games in three days is too much at the moment for the Dutchman after his introduction to the Championship at the weekend.

The visitors tonight maybe without the services of Sergi Canos after the former Liverpool and Norwich man had to be withdrawn in the Bee’s draw at Aston Villa last weekend, Florian Jozefzoon could be the man to replace him after the Dutchman got over a recent illness.

‘Keeper, Dan Bentley, says the Owls are a team to be respected tonight but they are more than capable of turning their hosts over tonight if they play to their potential.

“They're a very good team and a very sizeable club,” he told GetWestLondon. “We went there last year and I was a busy man. If we can be a bit more clinical think I we can go there and give them more than a game.
“They will be more than up for it. They're a very good team who have got some very good players, but it's up to us to go there and stamp our authority on the game.”

Some Stats V The Bees…

Tonight will be the 37th meeting between the two sides with the Wednesday having the advantage, 12 wins to 10 but the most frequent result is the draw with 14 noted in the history books.
The last five games between the sides at Hillsborough have ended with two wins apiece and one draw.
Although the Bees are yet to score away from home this season they’re far from shot shy, registering more attempts then any other club in the Championship.

Final Thoughts…

I really hope it’s not an after the Lord Mayor’s show type performance tonight, I’m not for one second suggesting that Saturday’s win over Nottingham Forest was one of the best we’ve EVER seen but it was the best we’ve seen this season so far.
You could feel the confidence that was taken from the opening 20 minutes and Wednesday managed the game very well in the end. Games between Wednesday and the Bees over the years have generally been good ones, memories happy and not so much but there are usually goals.
Will we win? On recent form, you’d have to suggest so.
