Owls To Start 20/21 Season With Points Deduction

The EFL have this evening released a statement to announce that Wednesday have been found to have breached profitability and sustainability rules for the three-season reporting period ending in season 2017/18.

An independent Disciplinary Commission ruled the Owls had broken the rules, despite many rumours of late speculating to the contrary, and as a result of the findings the punishment for this is that Wednesday will start NEXT season on minus 12 points.

However, it’s likely that there would still be an appeal from The Owls against the punishment, but a statement this evening on SWFC.CO.UK states that:

“The club will await the written reasons for the sanction and upon receipt will digest and consider the full detail with its legal advisers before making any further comment.”

During the hearing however, it has been noted that the club were cleared from any wrongdoing in terms of what was said to be concealing information in the filings in respect of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Something which Wednesday have welcomed.

So, as things stand tonight… Garry Monk will have to overhaul a 12-point deficit before getting any points on the board next season in the Championship.
