Wednesday Add Trio Of Staff

The Owls have this afternoon confirmed the appointment of three new members of staff to Garry Monk’s coaching team.
James Beattie, Darryl Flahavan and Andrew Hughes link up with the club ahead of a full return to training for all the Wednesday squad later this week. All three have extensive experience both as players and coaches and join The Owls after leaving their positions at Birmingham City and Sheffield United respectively.

Beattie comes as no stranger to fans of the Owls after he of course spent a spell with our neighbours across the city as a player but also called upon Everton, Stoke and Glasgow Rangers amongst others as his former clubs. As a coach, he has worked with Monk at Swansea, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City. Beattie joins Wednesday to take up the position of assistant manager.

Flahavan comes into the backroom team as goalkeeping coach, the former ‘keeper chalked up over 450 appearances in his career before going into coaching, again working with the current Owl’s gaffer at Middlesbrough and Birmingham City.

Andrew Hughes is the new first team coach at Wednesday, making a relatively short move as his last role was with our neighbours where he led the Blade’s Under 23 side. He doesn’t come directly to Hillsborough from Sheffield 2 though as he left his former employers in June.

As we welcome the new staff members into the staff, it does raise a question about the futures of former Wednesday players, Lee Bullen and Nicky Weaver. Does this mean that they are to depart the club? The Wednesday statement around the arrival of the new members of Monk’s staff don’t mention if they are additions or are to replace the previous incumbents of the roles, so it’ll be interesting to see if or how that develops.

To come discuss the news of the new staff, give us your thoughts on should it be the time for Bully and Nicky Weaver to go? Or anything else Wednesday… Join us on the forum by CLICKING HERE
