The 2021/22 Fixtures Are Out!

The 2021/22 Fixtures Are Out!

The fixtures are now out for Wednesday’s League One season ahead of the big kick off in just over a month or so.

Darren Moore’s side kick off the season against Charlton Athletic at The Valley, so it’s a decent away trip for the fans to make. A decent sized stadium in the sense we’ll get a decent sized allocation for the first game fans have been able to see in the flesh for quite a while (obviously withstanding the lockdown rules being removed as planned).

Then it gets no less interesting the week after as we get a bit of ‘needle’ for the first home tie of the season as Doncaster Rovers come to S6 1SW, of course their fans will enjoy coming to our place to give our manager and their former gaffer some hammer for leaving them to come to us. We’ve also got another game against South Yorkshire ‘rivals’ in the shape of Rotherham United at their place.

Finally by the end of August we’ll have made a trip to a club that we wouldn’t necessarily have thought we would be attending in the league, Morecambe. I mean, that’s not having a go at them they’ve done fantastic to be promoted from League Two on very limited resources, but we’ve only played them once before… In the FA Cup.

A new ground for many of us comes our way in October as it’s the trip to AFC Wimbledon and their new stadium, which will certainly be one for the fans aiming to notch up another new stadium on their list of ones attended. Also in the same month, those fans can strike Cheltenham Town off the list too as we go to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Skipping ahead a bit, in December we start with a LONG trip to Portsmouth on a Tuesday evening but then over Christmas we finally get a home game on Boxing Day as Burton Albion come to Hillsborough then we have an interesting trip to end the calendar year at Sunderland. Then we start 2022 by visiting Shrewsbury Town on New Year’s Day.

Over Easter it’s an away trip on Good Friday to Stadium:MK before Crewe Alexandra come to our place on Easter Monday. The regular league season comes to a close a little earlier than usual as we don’t stretch into May, so the season is rounded off with an away day at Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth make their long trip to Hillsborough on Saturday April 30th.

Of course the Carabao Cup first round draw and the completion of the Owl’s Papa Johns Trophy group is still to come, so those fixtures will be added to the fixture list later today.
