BRING IT ON - The Addicks

Dan Mac is in here somewhere.
BRING IT ON - The Addicks

Here we are on the eve of the first home game since last year, we see a return for Bring It On, after a couple of weeks where people just can't be bothered to return emails and a couple of weeks where I've just been too busy to sort it... It's BACK..

So with Charlton Athletic and their new boss, Chris Powell, making the trip up to S6 from The Valley, we speak to Dan Mac to get his views, so come on then Dan, BRING IT ON!

1) Phil Parkinson, did he deserve to go? Why? Why not?

Possibly, only time will tell, however the recent performances and results have not been good enough and there was a common belief that despite being 5th when he left, Parkinson would not deliver promotion. The style of football was at times boring and recent home games were dreadful. I am not upset at his departure, I do however believe at the right club, Parkinson will be a success and I wish him all the best, you cannot fault the fact he seemed one of footballs nice guys.

2) Chris Powell, right man or would you have preferred an experienced manager?

Right man in my view, the guy is adored by Charlton fans and he knows the club inside out. His lack of management experience is a minor concern, yet he has been a coach at Leicester since 2008, has all the coaching qualifications and has worked with some of the best and worst managers around so I am hoping he will be able to adapt to the number 1 fairly easily. Experienced managers certainly do not guarantee success either and as gambles go, I would rather Powell than some of the names mentioned.

3) The new owners, what do you make of them?

Ambitious and perhaps ruthless, very few football owners are perfect so as long as they want what is best for Charlton then we have to have faith in them. They seemed to give their support to Parkinson on the Friday yet sacked him on the Tuesday but that is football (rightly or wrongly). However they also said Dennis Wise would not be involved and so far he hasn’t been so that is positive from the fans point of view as is the fact we have just beat off competition from higher teams to the signing of Nathan Eccleston. Hopefully this is the sign of things to come in the transfer marker and there may even be some money to spend which is needed and welcome.

4) Do you see automatic promotion as a possibility or are you set on the playoffs?

If we can go on a similar run to the one we were on the last time we played Wednesday then automatic promotion is not out of the question. However we need to start winning, having not won for nearly two months and hope any new signings hit the ground running. Teams above us will inevitably slip up so we need to be ready to punish them. Personally, I think we will be in and around the play offs, but you never know.

5) Best and worst games so far this season and why?

Best: for entertainment- Carlisle away will take some beating, 3-0 up, then 3-3, and in the last minute winning it 4-3. Miles from home only a week after being hammered by Brighton, thought that would take some beating. Yet when we played Peterborough away, the team possibly delivered their best performance in a long time. The 5-1 win really could have been more and there were some great performances that day.

Worst: Even though Brighton gave us a lesson at The Valley and won 4-0, the Walsall home game was worse. Not one player turned up and it was a dreadful all round performance against a team at the bottom. Their keeper barely made a save and Walsall could have won by 2 or 3.

6) Who has been your player of the season so far? Has there been any surprises?

Having seen Johnny Jackson last year on loan and at his various clubs before, we knew he would be a good addition. Yet never expected him to score so many goals, especially as he played LB until October. He adds great balance to the midfield, gets forward well and has weighed in with some vital goals. Would not be surprised to see him at the back post tomorrow getting on the end of a cross and adding to his tally. Jackson has been the biggest surprise I guess, although Kyel Reid has not quite maintained his early season form and not been the key player we thought he would be. However his time will come again.

7) Favourite away ground you have visited this season and why?

Barnet in the FA Cup, the ground is so unique and has a lot of character. Even though we only drew there, it was still a good day out. There was a good atmosphere in the away end and it was great to be able to stand on old fashioned terracing as these are become rarer. Looking forward to Rochdale in two weeks aswell.

8) If you could slap one opposition player, who would it be and why?

El Hadji Diouf- do I need a reason! If the stories are true about what he said to Jamie Mackie then Warnock is right- he is nothing more than a sewer rat. Would not want him playing for Charlton that’s for sure.

In League 1, Sam Williams at Yeovil played a big role in Christian Dailly being unfairly sent off so him.

9) Team news?

Nathan Eccleston on loan from Liverpool should debut, possibly as we revert back to a 4-4-2, he may replace McCormack. Whilst Paul Benson is still suspended so he will be a loss having played so well back in October.

10) Score prediction?

Even though you guys have not played at home for a while, before that your form at home was good so I will be happy with a draw. I said 1-1 in October and will say the same again. Hopefully Eccleston to get a debut goal for us.
