Wednesday Announce Departure Of Youngsters

Wednesday have just announced a number of players who have been in the academy and in some cases on the fringes of the first team previously are being released following the expiration of their contracts.

The following players will leave the club; Omar Damba, Jordan O’Brien, Fraser Preston, Jack Stobbs, Jack Lee, Connor Kirby, Joe West and Preslav Borukov.

Borukov is arguably the most surprising name of the group of players who are departing, the Bulgarian who has represented his country at Under 16, 17 and Under 18 levels was tipped to potentially be a player who could have made the step up into full time football. A number of the others DID make the breakthrough into the first team however, 23 year old Jack Stobbs, made his debut for The Owls in April 2014 against Bolton Wanderers and then made a further 5 appearances in a Wednesday shirt. He also had a taste of football away from Hillsborough in loan spells with Port Vale and Livingston, with the latter he made quite the impact as he scored a memorable goal on his debut for the Scottish club.
Fraser Preston and Jack Lee had also made their bow with the Wednesday first team, with Preston featuring four times whilst Jos Luhukay was Owls' boss. Kirby played four times for Wednesday before spending last season on loan at League Two side, Macclesfield.

Josh Render, Ben Hughes and Ciaran Brennan have all agreed new deals to stay with the Owls from the cohort of Under 23 players.

From the Under-18 squad, the following players have agreed professional contracts and will step up into the Owls Under-23 squad; Luke Jackson, Luke Cox, Lewis Farmer, Charlie Reaney, Declan Thompson and Charles Hagan.

Toby Kenyon, Elliott Vasalo, L’Varn Brandy, Sam Oliver and Michael Ellery have been released.
