Wednesday Take Burnley Midfielder

It appears that the Owls have signed David Jones from Burnley on a three year contract, although as yet neither club have confirmed the move for the 31 year old midfielder the Daily Mail have said it's a done deal with comment from the player himself.

The move for the midfielder would mean another player with undoubted experience in this division will enter the engine room for the Wednesday. Jones possesses a very good left foot which they experienced first hand last season as he smacked in the opening goal in the Claret's 3-1 win over the Owls in early September.

Jones has been well travelled during his career, Hillsborough will be his tenth home stadium in a career which started with Manchester United in 2003 before loan moves to Preston, Nijmegen and Derby County. Then the Rams paid £1m for his services after that successful loan spell, he spent just over 18 months in total in the East Midlands before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers on a free transfer, he featured over 75 times for the Wolves, interspersed by a loan spell with Oldham Athletic before moving on to Wigan in 2011. Again a relatively short spell of two seasons with the Latics was interrupted by another loan spell, moving across Lancashire to Blackburn Rovers before making the permanent switch to Turf Moor, Burnley, who he helped to promotion at the end of last season.

The Clarets are the side who he has featured for more than any other, taking to the field for them over 130 times (includingtheir Premier League opener last weekend against Swansea) before this move to Hillsborough. Jones told the Mail that a move to Wednesday is something which he has been waiting for as he supported the Owls as a young man, citing Chris Waddle as his former idol.

'It was a bit of a whirlwind few hours to be honest. When I arrived at training yesterday I had a message on my phone from my agent saying that Sheffield Wednesday have matched the buyout clause in my contract and that I can go for a medical in Sheffield. So I drove over to Hillsborough from Burnley and a few hours later I had completed my medical and everything had been agreed, so I was able to sign the contract.
'Wednesday is a massive club with fantastic, passionate fans and I'm delighted to be here. I can't wait to get started. I supported them growing up and loved watching the likes of Chris Waddle play.'
