Not registered either just use incognito browsing.

Says he's signed and that he'd been at Hillsborough late last season for talks and training.

Says he's been training with the team during last season so Rohl could take a look at him before offering him a deal. Mentions McNeill also liked the experience and was impressed by the coaching.

As McNeill was still technically an academy player it seems we took advantage of the ruling that allows kids that will be released to start looking/training with new clubs after February so they can secure a new deal

Per the Star

Sheffield Wednesday complete striker signing - interesting details revealed

Published 9th Jul 2024, 21:40
Sheffield Wednesday have completed their latest signing as young striker Charlie McNeill joins after leaving Man Utd.

As reported by BBC Sheffield, The Star understands ex-Manchester United starlet Charlie McNeill, 20, has completed a free transfer deal to join Sheffield Wednesday that they and welcomed him into their pre-season training camp at St George’s Park on Tuesday.

It’s well publicised that the striker, who boasts a remarkable scoring record at youth level with both Manchester City and the Old Trafford giants, spent time training at Middlewood Road as part of an experience-building programme during Darren Moore’s time at the club.

But The Star can reveal that McNeill since spent time in Wednesday training in recent months as Röhl and his coaching staff - as well as the player himself - took a closer look at the potential of a future deal ahead of his United release. The talented former England youth international is said to have been impressed by the methods of the coaching team and amid interest from Serie A and the MLS saw a switch to S6 as his preference.

The Star understands that having agreed a deal, McNeill undertook the first part of his Wednesday medical in Leeds on Tuesday morning before making the trip down to St George’s Park to join up with his new teammates and complete the switch. Wednesday are midway through the first of their two pre-season training camps ahead of a trip to a training camp in Germany that will see them hop over the border into Austria for friendlies against RB Salzburg and Werder Bremen.

McNeill - who is not seen as an alternative to the still sought-after Ike Ugbo - arrives at Wednesday having already featured in the EFL in loan stints at Newport County and Stevenage. It represents the latest move in a whirlwind start to the transfer window that shows no sign of slowing dowm

3/4 year contract is a big investment in McNeil but he does look to have real potential and it’s great to see signs of some longer term planning at the club.

We've done the same with Kobacki and it's because of their age.

There's a knock on fee to their academy club if we sell them before the season they turn 25. But we can loan them out to our heart's content like Leicester did with Hirst to stop us being paid again.

Does that apply even if they released him ie separate to compensation or solidarity payments?

One of those where his career did not progress as it should have

Maybe too much too young and perhaps a good coach like Rohl can get the best out of someone like him

Yes if there was a deal on the table that wasn't taken by the player.

Crikey you know the years are passing when players you perceive as "young and promising" are now nearing retirement age.

Saying that my youngest - age 20 - struggles to cope with kids years younger than him playing internationals when he is often sub for the village reserve team

I think it’s a really good signing. He’s good defensively and has very good distribution.

What we now need to see is that striker (which I am hearing Ugbo is REALLY close), and then two ‘ratters’ who can get around the pitch from the middle of midfield.

If Bernard is done shortly, that’s the lot.

Boosts the central midfield area that looked at least one short of depth. Got to accept that age will catch up with Bannan, the fact he was subbed quite a bit towards the end of games says a lot.

Key now is for Rohl to instill his ethos into these new players. No doubt he will and if they don't he won't be kind

Interesting that Chalobah was filmed at S6 and talks about how he'll seek out Big Dom when he meets up with the squad, yet it was reported that he's already been training with the team at St. George's.

That would suggest the video is a few days old, so this transfer must've been done for some time.

Left footed centre back. Ball player as well as ball winner

Surprised St Etienne didn't extend his contract after a very solid second half of last season including two good games in the promotion play offs against Metz

I read they offered him a new contract but he's turned it down but saying that, you're alot more informed than I am bud.

Sounds like he would be a decent pick up.
