I used to be transfixed by the 10km, and other long distance races, with the runners rounding the curve whilst the javelin competition goes on in the background. What if a thrower gets a rush of testosterone, gets some unexpected extra distance and skewers Steve Cram?

They had to change the javelin design some time ago as it was getting very close to hitting the track.

So new world records (shorter) came jn

Yeah I always thought that about the javelin and the trampoline

Perhaps they could make the Hammer Throwing the near neighbour of the Break Dancing that's being introduced this year: save a bit of space and time. Keep the crowd entertained and give added meaning to the latter name.

I remember throwing the Javelin during PE at High School. We had an outdoor running track, etc., outside and that was one of the activities we were allowed to do.

Always amazed me how the teachers apparently trusted us enough not to attack each other, or them. Could've done some damage with one of those things!

Anyone know if schoolkids are still allowed to do it nowadays? I'm guessing not, but you never know.

Just watched a little bit of the women’s skateboarding on Eurosport. I only saw about 5 minutes of it but I kid you not, all but one of the competitors fell off their skateboard within 5 seconds!

Don’t know if they were trying to do some difficult technical challenge or not, but it was a joke seeing them all hit the deck so quickly.

They still had proper javelins at my daughter's sports day and the wife is a teacher and they had them at theirs as well

Vaulks and Gregory on opposite sides of a 16 man brawl at the end of a friendly between Mansfield and Oxford a couple of days ago.

It had been niggly all match (who would have thought it at Mansfield) but at the very end Vaulks took issue with a Mansfield player proper clattering a 17 year old Oxford had thrown on due to several injuries incurred. Cue a massive pile on by most of the Mansfield players and Vaulks stood in the middle till the cavalry arrived.

Punches thrown, ref report in and Inspector Knacker taking an interest.

Good to see that Southport FC have cancelled their friendly tonight and that they have opened the grounds function rooms for use by the support services groups. Thoughts are with all those impacted by the dreadful events of yesterday. RIP little ones

Wright was largely anonymous yesterday. Can't say I was shocked.

What do you think of St. Mirren this season. Got family who live in Paisley so have a soft spot for them.

Watched the highlights v Hibs and they seem to have quite a pacy and attack minded forward line. Despite keeping a clean sheet they looked far from convincing at the back though.

Also noticed a certain Dennis Adeniran playing for them.

St Mirren have done very well in recent years. Pretty much since the season in which Jim Goodwin made a number of signings and transformed them into (almost) a top 6 side. Stephen Robinson continued that good work. He has a decent record in Scotland (not so much away from football though) and the club is in safe hands under his stewardship.

You're right in both senses re up front and at the back. Very pacy / far from convincing. They can't really rely on the 'wily old fox' Alex Gogic bailing them out all the time, although the new goalkeeper (Ellery Balcombe, on loan from Brentford) looks like he may do ok. Need to have a proper look at him when they're on TV next.

The Northern Irish chap who came off the bench on Sunday (replacing Adeniran) to score two goals - Oisin Smyth. Apparently his first name is pronounced something like "Oishin". Sadly, he's been given squad number 8 so I'll forever think of that Ladies film. Would've been much better if he was number 11, 12 or 13.

The Buddies will do well this season. Could quite feasibly sneak into the top 6 again.

Brown gave away the penalty in their Euro qualifier second leg victory last Thursday. Apart from that, I can't say he's done much noticeable either way.

One other mention - Shaun Roney - remember the bloke who scored against us at Fleetwood a couple of years ago, then took a major daft turn and got sent off? Well, he's back in Scottish football (at St M) and, apparently, is now going out with tennis 'Legend' Heather Watson!

Always remember the first match after Bowyer had been arrested for that fracas in the nightclub. Cold January night, he comes out in long sleeves and gloves. Mills comes out short sleeves and a freshly shaven head 😁

I think we're waiting for our lucky mascot to start a match thread but I can't remember who had the last 3 or so games of last season - that worked out well

Unless he can play centre mid I don't think even @holmesfield_owl's lucky threads will save us this season.

False dawn against England's Wayne Rooney's Plymouth aside

Took a look at the new Skysports + channel on Ch 412 on the Sky Q platform.

Looks alright and a familiar look to the set up of other streaming sites. Only Tennis was the option last night but the stream and picture quality looked pretty robust. Which was the bug bear of the old red button option.
