Hirstys 12th Pint
Might be controversial but I would leave Bellingham out of the next game. He has stunk the place out last two games.

TheExile
Gordon didn’t get long and made a bit of a hash of kicking it out of touch but just having someone direct and willing to take someone on is what we need when the more intricate play isn’t really working. Some of them can’t pass wind this tournament Southgate is an intelligent fella so he surely can’t be confused by the reaction when we can’t muster a chance against Slovenia. It’s like the Iraqi defence minister with the tanks rolling in behind him.
mkowl
1 hour ago, Andyben said: This is reason for my lob-sided wings. If Gordon plays, with Gomez effectively defending like full backs used to (and is becoming more common in elite football), then the Mainoo/Rice axis behind him and Bellingham/Foden/Palmer in the 10 role, means less congestion and more options for Gordon to go 'Out or In' especially with how cute the #10s can pass round corners etc. If we're not playing Holland, Kane gets the first half against and is told You're a #9. You play within the width of the box, do not move off the last man's shoulder and start the press high and early. If he doesn't - he's hooked If it is Holland, whose defensive line plays quite high, I'm gonna start Ivan Toney, Watkins or even Palmer . I'm resting Bellingham for the next round. Versus P3 team Pickford Walker Stones Guehi Shaw/Gomez Mainoo Rice Saka Foden Gordon Kane Versus Holland Pickford Walker Stones Guehi Shaw/Gomez Mainoo Rice Palmer Foden Gordon Toney The point is really that you need a solid base where the creative players can play with a bit more freedom But players that can win the ball back to feed them

BraddersTim
Southgate should be sacked purely for the "fans are creating an unusual environment" bollocks he spouted last night. What kind of manager trots that out? It's a major tournament, there to be attacked, stop being a whingy twat because that feeds through to the players. IMO the fans were superb last night, gave them far more support than the performance, especially first half, warranted.
HoylandOwl
Said it last night, when we play FORWARD with a bit of confidence, even when it's 5 yards between players and creating a bit of space we look good. But the reluctance to do it last night, and the lack of movement (and I'm looking at Bellingham last night) was AWFUL in central areas. As others have said, Mainoo did very well. He's a confident lad and it shows, like Palmer, like Gordon. They have a go, and generally in the right areas too. They seem quite intelligent players and not being sucked into the 'safety ALWAYS' approach that others seem to. Yes, Trippier has a left leg to stand on and doesn't do much more with it, but bloody hell, last night it was infuriating. One moment I recall him fizzing it into the player ahead of him, then looking like he'd steam forward on the overlap, then it was as though he realised, 'Shit, if I get ahead of the ball I might have to use my left' and stopped beside the player he'd passed it to, making it more congested on the touchline than the M25. The English fan base are crying out for something to enjoy over the summer and would grasp any positive going. It’s a fan base he needs to get onside but he’s going down the Irvine, Carlos and Xisco route of pretending the coaches are on another plane of understanding to the people who are simply pointing out the obvious. Bellsview
I think I’d have a look at Saka at left back in training, just to see if he can cut it there. Got to be better than the current incumbents labelled for that position by our esteemed manager.

The correct but boring answer is that the Turkish government wanted the British tourist to differentiate between their country and the Christmas meal and so spent a shed load of money rebranding and insisting on their native name. No other nation calls, and pronounces, their country name the same as the name of said poultry True story alert This is also why Kiev is now called Kyve. Distancing the city from the chicken dish. Tank_Owl2,0
So Slovakia, probably without Foden and probably with TTA back in Im probably not going to watch. I watched the last game against my better judgement and they were turgid and clueless. We’ve seen some football miracles in the last 12months.
