Possible old fart out of touch alert.

What's FMC?

Was the name of a company in Coventry who knocked out very good copies of Wednesday Umbro shirts with full Umbro badging. He did Cov shirts as well and some Wednesday concept shirts including a Wednesday blue replica of the 88 Dutch shirt. That one didn't quite work though

Yeah. That Dutch one is honking.
We’ve never had adidas, or a design of kit remotely similar.

With shirts being every year, we should do the classic 5 stripe generic home shirt every other season then push the boat out with the others.

You'll get some bad ones, but you'll also get some classics that'll be worn for years.

And offer them without sponsors.

Why though?

Last season's shirt showed you could have variation without deviating from tradition.

I get changing the shirt is a revenue generator but so is brand image. Keep the traditional 5 stripes, blue middle stripe and mess around with the collar or sleeve cuff colours.  You can have nods to the past by replicating the 84 v neck or the squiggle in the blue stripes on the 90 shirt.

Am picking up on this a bit late but...

Why is 5 stripes traditional? Our traditional shirt is 7 stripes, as posted earlier in this thread. Yes, we have had 5 stripes at times but it always makes us look more like other clubs, not so much the Wednesday.

It's roughly a 50/50 split if the historical kits site is correct

We don't have a bog standard shirt, just a set of stripes. Therefore no shirt 'brand'.

From the 20s to the early 60s we were predominantly 5 stripes. 7 stripes from the 70s to the late 80s and back to 5 until Puma comes along. Then we start to fluctuate between the two to differentiate seasons and drive sales.

OK.

We give 5 stripe one year, something daft, 7 stripe, something daft.

One of the most iconic kits was the puma with the massive white stripe down the middle, I'm honestly surprised we haven't tried it again. It's one of the very few that worked with blue shorts too.

That is one of those kits that if you debadged it, would be instantly and exclusively Wednesday and not be associated with another team.

It wasn't iconic was it.

Was it not?

I'd say it's by far the most recognisable Wednesday shirt, associated with when we were actually pretty good and some great players.

That's about as iconic as you can get for a Wednesday shirt.

I wasn’t keen on that one, although it was the first shirt my son had.If i remember correctly it had a thin stripe either side of the broad one.Apart from that it was similar to the Birmingham City ‘penguin’ shirt.

You can’t beat blue and white stripes with black shorts if you want an iconic kit.

It was like Man Yoos away kit of the era.

I’d forgotten about that.

When it comes to a lot of things in life, nostalgia can play a big role. One of my favourites, and I know this is by no means popular, was the blue with white sleeves.Purely down to my age and having the subbuteo team of that era.

Both barely played in it.

Think it's more that it's the last kit they really played in, it was the end of the early 90s team then the Italian (Carbone and DiCanio) era started with the next kit.

Hirst played in a later kit. Carbone started in the kit you are waxing lyrical about.

Like rocking horse shit to get hold of.

Definitely got one in the loft, maybe two. Had one from new. Picked it up from Suggs before going to Millmoor for an Inter Toto game. Unless my memory is playing tricks I don't think the team wore it that game

It was a generic Puma template. Wigan had it at the same time, as did most of the German lower leagues. Screenshot_20240618-2043282.png.35d26bac111e8839a4f51a4395076845.pngs-l960.thumb.webp.44316e135acff2fc21ad2f34ab838e14.webp

I went to the game against Gornik. There was a picture of Hirsty in the new strip on the programme cover but I also seem to recall we wore the old kit.

Circa Gary Shelton?  My then (relatively) near neighbour.

As a kid, I was “given” one of the yellow Bukta tops. It had long sleeves and a small blue number 11 on the front -was told it was Gary Shelton’s training top.
Not sure where it came from… or where it is now unfortunately.
