Do we reckon a cup competition based on FA Cup ties is workable.

No.

For example: my defence might concede one and lose, and each of my six forwards might score, but also lose. So I win 6-1 but have nothing going through to the next round.

Maybe in the scenario above, as I’ve won on the day (or just done better than my opponent in the round), any defence / player knocked out could be substituted for someone still in? But as division three teams get knocked out, players remaining have limited choice of who to substitute in. Our final should be at round 5 stage - will there be any div 3 teams left?

Need a way to resolve draws as well.

Could certainly do first round I suppose but beyond that as M42 says.

Rough idea was a player v player comp

Round 1 would be 5 ties drawn out and 11 players get byes.

Then a last 16/8/4 etc

As i said at the outset this is almost a test run year for us

Could a knockout competition be run alongside the league but purely based on goals scored or GD for that set of fixtures? The rounds don't have to be on cup weekends then. Could even be the next set of full midweek fixtures.

if GD was used then goals scored could be the 'penalty' shootout.

if goals scored was used then you could lose 3-2 in the league but still go through in the cup if you'd drawn someone who won 1-0

  • 2 weeks later...

With 21 player in the league the preliminary round of the Owlsonline Cup takes place this weekend.

There will be 10 players facing off for the right to join the other 11 in the first round.

Games will be based on the number of goals scored by your team ie if you side scores three and your opponent scores 2 you win regardless of how many you concede.

If the event of a tie the replay will take place the following round of fixtures.

Happy?

This competition has been a great addition to the site IMO and I think it would be worth paying a small fee (£5?) to join in next season to raise funds to help keep the site going.

Thanks for that opti and others who have commented of late, makes the work putting it together and running it all worthwhile.

Any ideas about if the game isn't solved by the replay

Choices

1)  whoever scored most away goals over the 2 games

2) 2nd replay the factor in option 1?

Use the defence scores? I.e lowest goals conceded in first week, if level, lowest goals conceded second week?

Think you allow the replay then perhaps use the goals conceded route over both ties

So goals against only factor after the replay.
